Essential responsibilities and duties

Role Overview

Accounting Manager responsible for overseeing all accounting-related activities for Forvia Group entities in Japan and acting as a key business partner to Controllers, business functions, and shared service teams.

The position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting under IFRS and Japanese GAAP, supporting statutory and group audits, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous process improvements across the accounting function.

Accounting Responsibilities (IFRS and J-GAAP)

• Lead and oversee accounting activities for Forvia Group entities in Japan
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
• Ensure accurate financial reporting under IFRS and Japanese GAAP
• Review and validate IFRS-to-JGAAP reconciliations and reporting packages
• Coordinate and support statutory audits and IFRS group audits
• Perform balance sheet reviews and ensure accounting quality
• Analyze and resolve complex accounting issues
• Support accounting policy assessments and implementation of new accounting requirements
• Ensure compliance with Company Law and other relevant financial regulations
• Support tax-related accounting activities and collaboration with the tax function as required

Stakeholder Management

• Act as a key point of contact and business partner for Controllers, business functions, auditors, and external advisors, providing accounting guidance and supporting resolution of financial issues
• Collaborate closely with Accounting Shared Service teams in China to ensure efficient and accurate accounting operations

Internal Controls and Process Improvement

• Strengthen and maintain accounting-related internal controls
• Support internal and external audit activities
• Identify and support process standardization, automation, and efficiency improvement initiatives across accounting operations

Reporting

• Perform timely financial reporting to Headquarters in France in accordance with the Group reporting calendar
• Support management reporting and ad-hoc financial analyses as required

Additional Information

• The position will be based in Saitama (Saitama-Shintoshin), Japan, with a hybrid working model available
• Domestic travel to other Group locations in Japan may be required
• This role offers exposure to a global working environment through close collaboration with regional and global teams
• The position provides visibility within the Group and opportunities to develop through close collaboration with Headquarters and regional teams

Qualifications  

• Bachelor's degree or above in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• Native-level proficiency in Japanese
• Business-level communication skills in English (both written and verbal)

Experience:

Required:

• Solid experience in accounting, with exposure to tax-related accounting or tax coordination, within a multinational company, accounting firm, or shared service environment
• Hands-on experience with financial closing and reporting processes
• Experience working with IFRS and/or Japanese GAAP

Preferred:

• 10+ years of accounting experience
• Experience in a managerial or team leadership role
• Experience in a multinational company, a listed company or a subsidiary of a listed company, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry
• Experience working with global stakeholders and shared service organizations
• Experience supporting statutory and financial audits

Skills and competencies:

• Strong knowledge of IFRS, Japanese GAAP, and Company Law
• Strong financial accounting and reporting skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Ability to work effectively in an international and matrix organization
• Continuous improvement mindset with strong problem-solving skills
• MS Office proficiency
• Experience with SAP or other ERP systems preferred
