Operations Manager Housekeeping — Hamburg

A hands-on, on-the-ground role. Run our Hamburg operation from inside the hotels — build and lead the team, walk the floors, and hold quality in every room. Not from behind a desk. We're building something nobody else has thought of — in a traditional, but absolutely fantastic industry.

THE ROLE
This is a hands-on, on-site role. Your office is our hotels. You will spend your days in the properties — walking the floors, checking rooms, and standing shoulder to shoulder with your team leaders and housekeepers. You own the numbers too, but you earn them on the ground, not from behind a screen. If you lead best from a desk, this is not the role for you.

This is an early role: you join as we open in Hamburg and help build the operation from the ground up. You'll run a small cluster of hotels — compact and absolutely manageable, close enough to stay genuinely hands-on at every property. Big enough to matter, small enough to know every room. As the operation grows, you'll have one or more team leaders reporting to you — not boxes on a chart, but the people who hold the floor with you. They are critical pieces of the setup, and together with you they form the core of Unicorn Hamburg. Building, coaching, and trusting that core is one of the most important things you'll do here. And here's the part we mean from the heart: we love teaching others our craft. You won't just manage a team — you'll grow one, and lift and lift people from the housekeeping floor to team leadership

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

• Lead, coach, and develop a multicultural housekeeping team — from frontline crews to team leaders

• Make sure every room and shared space meets our cleanliness and quality standard, through daily on-site audits

• Deliver to our SLAs at property level — you meet and hold the agreed standards every day (quality, turnaround, response times). The standard is non-negotiable, and your team knows it

• Be the day-to-day operational point of contact for our clients on the ground in Hamburg — the reliable person who picks up, solves what needs solving at property level, and keeps things running. (Commercial terms and the partner relationship sit one level up — your job is to make the operation deliver)

• Plan schedules and manage staffing so the operation runs without gaps

• Track and improve KPIs: quality, cost-per-room, labour ratio, team performance

• Manage stock, linen, and supplier relationships

• Build and onboard your own local talent pipeline in a competitive market, together with People & Culture

• Hold safety and compliance with German employment and health & safety standards — non-negotiable

WHO YOU ARE
Previous housekeeping leadership is a hard requirement — you have run a housekeeping operation before, as a Housekeeping Manager or in an equivalent role with full responsibility for the function. And hands-on is non-negotiable: you have done the work yourself, not just managed it from an office. You know which product goes where, what a finished room should look like and in how many minutes, and how to catch a problem before it reaches the guest.

• You lead from the floor, not from a screen — most of your week is spent in the properties

• A strong people manager who loves to coach, set the standard, and grow talent — teaching the craft is part of the job, and you enjoy it

• Practical, organised, and process-driven — you bring structure and consistency

• Comfortable with KPIs and digital tools (rotas, dashboards, quality tracking)

• Business-minded — you understand cost-per-room and labour ratios and turn them into daily decisions

• Calm under pressure — hospitality gets hectic, and you solve problems without drama, with energy and a smile

• Fluent German is a must — you'll run crew briefings, manage local staff, and deal with German suppliers and authorities daily. Strong English on top is a real plus (our teams and reporting are international)

• Knowledge of Hamburg and its hospitality market is a strong plus — you know the city, the labour pool, and how to get things done locally

• Some weekend work is required — you're available on peak days and weekends when the operation needs you

DIE ROLLE
Das ist eine praktische Rolle vor Ort. Dein Büro sind unsere Hotels. Du verbringst deine Tage in den Häusern — du gehst die Runden, kontrollierst Zimmer und stehst Schulter an Schulter mit deinen Teamleitern und Housekeepern. Du verantwortest auch die Zahlen, aber du erarbeitest sie auf der Fläche, nicht hinter einem Bildschirm. Wenn du am liebsten vom Schreibtisch aus führst, ist das nicht die richtige Rolle für dich.

Das ist eine Rolle der ersten Stunde: Du kommst dazu, wenn wir in Hamburg eröffnen, und baust den Betrieb von Grund auf mit auf. Du führst ein kleines Cluster von Hotels — kompakt und absolut überschaubar, nah genug, um an jedem Standort wirklich hands-on zu bleiben. Groß genug, um etwas zu bewegen, klein genug, um jedes Zimmer zu kennen. Mit dem Wachstum des Betriebs wirst du eine oder mehrere Teamleiter unter dir haben — keine Kästchen im Organigramm, sondern die Menschen, die mit dir gemeinsam die Fläche halten. Sie sind entscheidende Bausteine des Setups und bilden zusammen mit dir den Kern von Unicorn Hamburg. WER DU BIST
Vorherige Führungserfahrung im Housekeeping ist zwingende Voraussetzung — du hast einen Housekeeping-Betrieb bereits verantwortet, als Housekeeping Manager oder in einer gleichwertigen Rolle mit voller Verantwortung für den Bereich. Und hands-on ist nicht verhandelbar: Du hast die Arbeit selbst gemacht, nicht nur vom Büro aus gesteuert. Du weißt, welches Mittel wohin gehört, wie ein fertiges Zimmer aussehen muss und in wie vielen Minuten, und wie du ein Problem erkennst, bevor es den Gast erreicht.

• Du führst von der Fläche, nicht vom Bildschirm — den Großteil deiner Woche bist du in den Häusern

• Eine starke Führungspersönlichkeit, die mit Freude coacht, Standards setzt und Talente entwickelt — das Handwerk weiterzugeben ist Teil des Jobs, und du machst es gern

• Praktisch, organisiert und prozessorientiert — du bringst Struktur und Konsistenz
