Full job description

Build Africa's Most Reliable Maintenance & Facility Management Company

IFS is not looking for another maintenance engineer. We are looking for a rare breed.

An engineer whose authority comes from competence rather than title.

A leader who can walk into a generator room, diagnose a complex mechanical-electrical fault, fix and lead teams to fix faults, then walk into a boardroom an hour later and explain technical issues to CEOs and senior executives in language they understand.

You are an engineer first. A leader second. A problem solver always. You don't wait to be told. You see problems before they become failures. You read trends from the BMS, understand what the electrical data is telling you, recognise abnormal equipment behaviour, and intervene before alarms become outages.

You will serve as the single point of technical authority for one of Nigeria's managers of sophisticated facilities, managing an integrated power infrastructure comprising:

National Grid Supply, Utility-scale Solar PV Hybrid System, Multiple Large Capacity CAT/CUMMINS/PERKINS Diesel Generator Sets, Automated ATS/AMF Switching Systems

HV & LV Distribution Networks, UPS & Battery Backup Systems, Mission-critical Building Services

Modern Building Management Systems (BMS)

Beyond technical excellence, you will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, represent IFS before demanding clients, develop engineering talent, and help build Africa's most respected maintenance and facility management company.

Your Mission

You will be responsible for the technical integrity, reliability, availability and continuous improvement of every critical engineering system on client sites. You will ensure that our client's operations never stop because engineering failed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Power Systems Leadership

Provide complete technical ownership of the clients facilities integrated power infrastructure, including: National Grid supply, Solar PV and Hybrid Energy Systems, CAT Diesel Generator Plant

ATS/AMF Automatic Transfer Systems, UPS and Battery Backup Systems, HV/LV Distribution Networks, Power Quality Systems, Earthing & Lightning Protection Systems

You will:

  • Lead daily operation and optimisation of the entire power architecture.
  • Maintain uninterrupted electrical supply across all facility zones.
  • Monitor generator loading, efficiency, fuel consumption and availability.
  • Optimise solar utilisation to minimise diesel consumption.
  • Manage ATS/AMF logic, transfer sequencing and operational reliability.
  • Plan and supervise preventive maintenance of all generators and electrical assets.
  • Manage diesel procurement, storage, reconciliation and consumption reporting.
  • Ensure all statutory electrical inspections are completed.

2. Engineering Excellence

You will be the highest technical authority on and for client sites

This means: Diagnosing complex electrical faults, Leading root cause investigations.

Approving corrective actions, Reviewing technical reports, Signing off all major electrical works.

Coaching engineers through difficult troubleshooting,

You will never accept replacing parts without understanding why they failed.

Every significant failure must produce:

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Corrective Actions
  • Preventive Actions
  • Lessons Learned

3. Building Engineering & MEP Systems

Provide technical leadership across all critical building services, including:

HVAC Systems (VRV, Chillers, AHUs), Mechanical Plant, Electrical Systems, Plumbing Services

Water Treatment, Fire Detection, FM-200 Systems, Passenger Lifts, Stage Elevators, Dumbwaiters

BMS, UPS Systems,

You will ensure preventive maintenance compliance exceeds 95% while driving continual improvements in plant reliability.

4. High Voltage & Electrical Safety

Take full responsibility for: HV Switching Operations, Switching Schedules, Isolation Procedures

Permit to Work, Lock Out / Tag Out, Earthing Procedures, Electrical Safety Compliance

Safety is never delegated.

6. Energy Performance

Lead initiatives that reduce operating costs through engineering excellence.

This includes: Load Profiling, Demand Management, Power Factor Improvement, Solar Dispatch Optimisation, Generator Efficiency Improvements, Fuel Consumption Reduction, Energy Benchmarking

Success will be measured through measurable annual reductions in energy costs without compromising reliability.

7. Client Leadership

Serve as the principal technical representative of IFS.

You will: Attend executive client meetings, Present engineering reports, Explain technical issues clearly, Provide strategic advice, Build confidence through competence, Ensure clients hear about risks from you before they discover them themselves.

9. Reporting & Governance

Prepare executive-quality monthly reports covering:

Asset Reliability, Equipment Availability, Preventive Maintenance Performance, Breakdown Analysis, Diesel Consumption, Energy Performance, Asset Condition, Engineering Risks, Planned Improvements, Budget Performance

Your reports should support executive decision-making, not simply record activities.

10. Health, Safety & Compliance

Champion a zero-harm engineering culture by ensuring full compliance with:

Nigerian electrical regulations, COREN requirements, HSE legislation, Permit to Work procedures, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Contractor Management, IFS Safety Standards
