To support our team at the Hamburg headquarters, we are looking for you as a full-time (40 hours) Principal Engineer (f/m/d) Backend, Java with immediate effect. As Principal Engineer (f/m/d) Backend, Java, you will be one of the key technical experts for our E&V Agent Platform. Your primary focus will be the design and implementation of scalable Java backend services, with particular responsibility for database performance, transaction management and data-intensive processing.

• Act as a key technical expert for the E&V Agent Platform, focusing on designing and implementing scalable Java backend services for data-intensive workloads.
• Work hands-on with our engineering teams to identify database bottlenecks, optimize complex search queries and continuously evolve our PostgreSQL ecosystem.
• Establish robust engineering patterns for high-volume transactional workloads, reducing lock contention and designing reliable batch and asynchronous processing workflows.
• Build consistent architectural principles, tooling, and observability across teams to detect database risks early and ensure systems are performant by default.
• Evaluate modern database technologies within the Google Cloud ecosystem to ensure long-term architecture resilience and scalability.
• Combine deep backend engineering expertise with cross-team technical guidance, actively resolving critical incidents and conducting architecture reviews to upskill engineering teams.

• Several years of proven technical leadership experience, or an experienced Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/d)*.
• Profound experience in writing clean, maintainable code in Java, ideally using the Spring Boot framework.
• Good knowledge of data structures, deep understanding of relational database design principles & knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Understanding of modern cloud-based backend architectures and technologies (GCP preferred).
• Proactive problem solver with a strong ownership mindset and a drive to take cross-team initiatives from concept to production.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
