Your responsibilities:

  • Evolve the end-to-end data platform solution design including ingestion, storage, transformation and serving layers across

  • the organisation.

  • Lead the design of data lake and data mesh architectures ensuring scalability, fault tolerance and cost efficiency.

  • Design, build and maintain reusable frameworks, libraries and internal developer tooling to standardise and accelerate data pipeline development across teams.

  • Identify, engage and influence stakeholders including architecture disciplines, product owners, delivery owners, workload engineers and business SMEs to ensure data solutions are optimal and have the greatest chance of success.

  • Ensure data pipelines and engineering processes adhere to existing engineering standards, have well-defined process controls and deliver an overall compliance reporting model.

  • Drive adoption of DataOps principles including CI/CD for data pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing and observability.

  • Design to Run by ensuring data solutions support the operational reliability requirements of critical systems infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with security and data office teams to embed data privacy, lineage tracking and regulatory controls into platform design.

  • Support a number of platform data engineers embedded in workload teams and play a key role in managing their deliveries and stakeholders

  • 10+ years of data engineering experience.

  • Proven track record of designing and operating large-scale data platforms and pipelines in AWS cloud environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise data pipeline tooling (Apache Spark, dbt, Airflow), providing guidance on best practices and helping enable major programs to deliver business value.

  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, batch and streaming data processing and modern data architecture patterns.

  • A strong understanding of cloud engineering principles underpinned by design and development experience with AWS.

  • Knowledge of data platform concepts including data lake, Data warehouse and Data Lakehouse patterns using technologies such as Redshift or Apache Iceberg.

  • Experience with data infrastructure automation using Terraform.

  • Experience with complex data structures and semi-structured data (JSON, Parquet, Avro, XML).

  • Experience with Design Governance, taking responsibility for end-to-end data platform design across a large program of work, collaborating with Architecture, Engineering, Analytics and business stakeholders.

Nice to have:

  • At least 3 years in a lead data engineering role.

  • Experience implementing data management capabilities in data platform frameworks.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Confluence, JIRA or ServiceNow.

  • Strong sense of ownership, customer focus, and integrity demonstrated through proactive leadership and continuous improvement.

  • Passionate about driving operational excellence and release engineering maturity.
