About this role

Proven flight heritage. Built for the nation’s most critical missions.

Rocketdyne has powered American launch and national security missions for generations. Today we build the propulsion, power, and communications that get this country’s most important systems where they need to go - and keep them there. If it flies, we power it. If it protects the nation, we deliver it. Real hardware. Real stakes. Join the team the nation depends on.

The Role

As Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, you will lead FP&A for Rocketdyne, serving as a strategic partner to the VP of Finance, CFO, and leadership team.

This role owns segment planning, forecasting, and financial performance reporting, bringing together inputs across businesses to create a clear view of performance, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions. You will translate financial and operational data into insights that help leaders allocate resources, strengthen execution, and advance profitable growth and cash generation.

You will lead the segment FP&A team and partner with business unit finance leaders and functional finance teams, including Controllership, Government Compliance, Rates & Budgets, Pricing & Estimating, and Corporate Treasury. Together, you will strengthen forecasting discipline, improve financial visibility, and support decisions that balance near-term performance with long-term strategic priorities.

We are looking for an experienced finance leader who combines analytical rigor with sound business judgment, communicates clearly with senior leaders, and builds effective partnerships across a complex organization.

Why This Role Matters

Delivering mission-critical hardware requires disciplined financial planning and informed decisions about where to invest, how to allocate resources, and how to respond to changing business conditions.

Our Director of FP&A connects business strategy, operational performance, and financial outcomes. By building a reliable view of the segment’s performance and outlook, you will help leadership anticipate challenges, evaluate opportunities, and take timely action.

This is an opportunity to be Bold — challenging assumptions and improving how we plan and analyze; to build Trust — delivering accurate, transparent financial insights; and to operate as One — aligning business and functional teams around shared priorities.

Success in this role looks like:

  • Plans and forecasts reflect sound assumptions, business priorities, and enterprise expectations.
  • Leadership receives clear, timely insights into performance, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Financial reporting connects results to operational drivers across sales, operating income, margins, cash flow, and working capital.
  • Scenario analysis and financial modeling inform investment, affordability, and resource allocation decisions.
  • Consistent processes, stronger data quality, and improved tools increase forecasting reliability and reporting efficiency.
  • The FP&A team develops its capabilities and works effectively across business and functional boundaries.
  • Financial deliverables maintain appropriate rigor and align with applicable guidance, controls, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual operating plan, long-range financial plan, and recurring forecasts, aligning business assumptions with segment strategy and enterprise expectations.
  • Consolidate and analyze business results, explaining performance against plan, forecast, and prior periods across key financial metrics.
  • Translate financial and operational data into executive-level recommendations, highlighting emerging risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Establish reporting cadences, dashboards, and review materials that promote accountability and timely decisions across the segment.
  • Partner with business finance, accounting, operations, business development, and Corporate FP&A to maintain consistent assumptions, reporting, and financial narratives.
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, capital investments, and resource allocation trade-offs through scenario analysis and financial modeling.
  • Challenge forecast assumptions, assess sensitivities, and improve visibility into business drivers and forecast reliability.
  • Standardize planning and reporting practices, improve data quality, and advance automation and analytics.
  • Set team priorities, coach finance professionals, and build organizational capability and succession readiness.
  • Partner with responsible functions to ensure FP&A deliverables align with applicable accounting guidance, internal controls, and company policies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; a graduate degree and a minimum of 13 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 19 years of prior related experience. Finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Progressive experience in FP&A or related finance roles, including leadership responsibility within a complex, multi-business organization.
  • Experience leading integrated planning, forecasting, consolidation, and executive financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect financial results with operational drivers and influence senior leaders.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and executive communication skills.
  • Experience leading teams and coordinating across matrixed organizations.
  • Proficiency with financial planning, enterprise reporting, and business intelligence tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, as well as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Deltek Cobra, Empower, Deltek Costpoint, Hyperion/Smart View, Oracle, and FCSTGov.
  • Objective thinking and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to execute challenging assignments through completion.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence cooperation across functional areas.
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of cost and schedule development, budgeting, financial analysis and reporting, financial modeling, corporate forecasting, and/or business acquisitions.
