The Floating Hospital

The Floating Hospital is the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in New York City to have all three of the federal government’s urban FQHC designations: to provide medical care to the community, to public housing residents, and to the homeless. The Floating Hospital is also a certified Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home. As family doctor to New York City’s most vulnerable citizens, The Floating Hospital has continuously provided primary healthcare to at-risk populations in all five boroughs of New York City for 148 years in fulfillment of its mission: to provide high-quality, comprehensive, compassionate healthcare and social services to underserved communities. Since the tragic events of 9/11, we are no longer “floating” but are now land-based in our main Long Island City clinic, in six satellites in New York City homeless shelters, and in our new Queensbridge clinic.

From our state-of-the-art Long Island City facility and satellite locations across all five boroughs of New York City, we continue our pioneering tradition of providing New York City’s underserved populations with the consistent, respectful healthcare New Yorkers expect from their personal family physicians. We provide primary medical, dental, and mental healthcare as well as health education and counseling. Our bilingual and culturally competent clinical teams ensure that each patient is accurately assessed and treated with dignity and compassion. By offering free van transportation to and from our facilities, we help our patients overcome a major barrier to healthcare regardless of their ability to pay for services.
