Program Overview for Sustainable Cities and Transport
WRI India’s Integrated Transport Program supports India’s decarbonization journey through effective, equitable, and inclusive mobility solutions. The program focuses on advancing sustainable urban transport, including electrification of public transport, clean air initiatives, and hydrogen economy. It emphasizes strategic research, policy support, and capacity building to enable systemic changes at the sub-national level and accelerate electric mobility adoption.
Details of Storein Project
The successful implementation of the project will support India in achieving its NDC target of achieving a share of 50% of non-fossil power generation capacity by 2030. StoREin will help to create favorable framework conditions for the introduction of viable storage systems on distribution grid level.
What will you do:
Supporting scoping, selection, design and implementation and end of life plan of pilot/ demonstration projects with stakeholders such as Discom, Industry and others
Assess operational, commercial, and regulatory implications of integrating energy storage into distribution systems and derive recommendations for utilities and policymakers.
Assistance in the identification of policy and regulatory gaps based on the technical, economic and business model needs
Analyze distribution network characteristics, including feeder-level and substation-level data, to identify suitable use cases and deployment opportunities for energy storage.
Conduct data exploration, quantitative research and provide analytical solutions and insights to meet project outputs including developing reports, presentations, and briefings.
Coordinate with team members and other stakeholders to analyse complex datasets from a variety of sources and develop recommendations/action plans/way forwards
Take lead and deliver written outputs, including peer-reviewed articles, WRI working papers, and blog posts
What will you need:
A bachelors/master’s degree and professional work experience (4 to 7 years) in relevant disciplines
A good understanding of the role of energy storage and related regulatory landscape pertaining to the journey of India’s Energy Transition
Good understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including battery sizing methodologies, use case assessment, and business model evaluation.
Understanding of DISCOM technical and commercial functions, including power procurement, network operations, loss management, tariff mechanisms, and revenue streams.
Familiarity with energy storage applications at transmission and distribution levels and their role in supporting India's energy transition.
Proficiency in R, Python and any other advanced data analysis technique is desirable along with proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word and others
Excellent writing and editing skills in English
Potential Salary and Benefits: INR 14,00,000 to 17,50,000 Per Annum
Salary shall be commensurate with experience, skills, and internal parity. WRI India offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)
