Overview: If you’re a skilled technical writer who excels at turning complex technical concepts into clear, user‑focused documentation, this role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. You’ll create, revise, and maintain a broad range of materials across software and systems engineering, operations, testing, and end‑user support. Your work will include installation and configuration guides, how‑to content, code and implementation documentation, and field and data‑flow materials. You’ll also shape polished technical publications using inputs from drawings, pamphlets, and discussions with engineers and subject‑matter experts. This position is well‑suited for someone who thrives in technical environments, collaborates effectively, and takes pride in delivering documentation that empowers users and strengthens overall project success.
Security Clearance Requirements:
This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.
Responsibilities
Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications
Understand basic concepts (including grammar) and write technical copy for various types of documents
Gather technical information and prepare written text
Maintain a current internal documentation library
Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio

Work on all phases of documentation

Prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences

Research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiple sources, and express technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience
Under general direction, write technical copy for various types of documents for a program or project of similar complexity
Apply concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject‑matter experts, and other available sources
Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation used by end users of DoD electronic equipment and systems
Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures to understand and blend large quantities of computer‑related information
Produce technical documentation for cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies
Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing for all phases of acquisition and technical documentation for the program, project, or contract
Work independently preparing and maintaining highly complex systems, programming and operations documentation, procedures, and methods
Act as project leader for projects with complex or voluminous documentation and provide or coordinate special documentation services as required
Qualifications
Required Education & Years of Experience:
Eight (8) years of experience as a Technical Writer on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
A master’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years.
Four (4) additional years of Technical Writer experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
