Full job description
Determined, imaginative, curious—if these are some of the ways you describe yourself, we want to learn more about you!
At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.
The Opportunity
This position is part of TC Energy's 3-year New Engineer-in-Training (NET) Program. The purpose of the NET Program is to provide broad exposure to various facets of TC Energy’s US Natural Gas Business Unit, acquire hands-on experience, and build a rewarding career. During your time in the program, you'll have the opportunity to focus on building your technical competencies and soft skills through a formal training program. In addition, you'll build meaningful relationships through a network of experienced mentors. Rotational positions will include teams within US Projects, Commercial Operations, and Safety & Technical Services (S&TS).
Participants will rotate to a new team each year of the 3-year program to diversify experience and exposure. Candidates who enter this program must commit to the rotational nature of the program and be able to travel to the field for site visits or relocate for term assignments based on business needs.
Mandatory requirement: Minimum 4-month field-based assignment or equivalent field exposure
The program has opportunities for new graduate engineers in our various regional and field offices including, but not limited to, the following:
Houston, TX
Charleston, WV
Tinley Park, IL
Regarding assigned work locations, candidates must remain flexible to potential relocation at hire and between rotations to accommodate business needs.
Candidates will be selected to fill one of the following positions for their first rotation:
US Projects – Various positions
Commercial Operations – Facility or Operations Planning Engineer
The Projects teams play a crucial role in providing technical support for both facilities and pipeline projects. The projects encompass work on new and existing natural gas facilities, ensuring the optimal operation of critical systems and equipment such as compressors, turbines, and power systems. Additionally, the teams handle projects involving new and existing pipeline assets, making vital decisions about route selection, right-of-way, environmental permits, and construction methods.
What you'll do
Assume responsibility for engineering work associated with natural gas facilities, pipeline, or interconnect projects.
Schedule internal and ESP resources to support assigned projects
Manage project specific engineering contracts including periodic interface and oversight of hired Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)
Schedule design reviews, ensure proper stakeholder engagement during the design process, and establish direction for the project overall design product
Identify equipment design requirements and review equipment layouts and installation
Trigger material procurement process for all items to be purchased by the Company
Review project requisitions against company standards and specifications as applicable to project scope
Provide technical support throughout construction activities, including site visits and timely RFI responses
Coordinate efforts tied to project close out from an engineering perspective, i.e., redline review, as-building, equipment data gathering for the preventive maintenance system, etc.
Commercial Operations – Facility or Operations Planning Engineer
The Facility or Operations Planning Engineer works with internal commercial, marketing, and operations groups to determine and manage pipeline hydraulic capacity, provide operational support, and supports methods to increase system efficiency transporting natural gas on their various pipeline systems.
What you'll do
Use hydraulic modeling software (DNV Synergi Gas) to optimize, troubleshoot, and solve for hydraulic capacity
Use tools like Pi Vision, Power Bi, and SCADA to collect, analyze and display operational data
Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to evaluate pipeline operation and efficiency and to determine daily, monthly and annual pipeline capacity to meet customer requests
Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to evaluate maintenance impacts on pipeline capacity and on customers
Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software to design new pipelines and expansion capacity projects
Coordinate with System Design, Gas Control, Operations, and Engineering regarding growth design and incorporate changes as appropriate
Other tasks as required
