Responsibilities

Operate the Cut-to-Length line by reviewing work orders and adjusting machinery to meet quality and customer standards. Monitor machine operation to detect defects and assist maintenance with minor equipment repairs.

Requirements

Candidates must be able to read technical manuals and use precision measuring tools like calipers and micrometers. Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and certification in forklift and crane operation are required.

Full job description

As an operator on the Cut-to-Length line, you must be attentive and detailed. You’ll review work orders and determine proper adjustments on the machine to run material as instructed. It is your responsibility to observe machine operation and ensure material is being processed according to quality and customer standards. This role is important to our business, and we know it.   

1st shift - 4:30am to 3:00pm - Monday through Friday (possible weekends)

 

How you’ll contribute to our company:

  • Review job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects caused by clearance, chipped or dulling shearing blade
  • Troubleshoot equipment and assist maintenance in minor repairs or as needed
  • Set stops or guides to specified positions as indicated by scale or rule
  • Use calipers and micrometers to determine proper slit width and gauge respectively
  • Load, transport, unload and stack materials in accordance with established procedures
  • Position work pieces against stops or align with knives
  • Measure work pieces dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Assist Material Handler in loading/unloading material

Here’s what is needed to be successful

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all Forklift and Crane training/certification
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
