Job Summary
The Director of Participant Recruitment provides enterprise-level strategic leadership for participant recruitment, marketing, and enrollment operations supporting Phase I clinical research studies. This role establishes the long-term recruitment vision, translates organizational and study forecasts into scalable enrollment strategies, and is accountable for departmental performance, financial stewardship, workforce planning, technology enablement, and external partnerships. The Director advises executive leadership, sponsors, and cross-functional teams on recruitment feasibility, risk, and performance to ensure enrollment objectives are achieved ethically, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Define and lead the long-term participant recruitment strategy, operating model, and annual priorities in alignment with organizational growth and study portfolio objectives.
Own enterprise recruitment performance across studies by establishing key performance indicators, enrollment forecasts, dashboards, and executive-level reporting.
Provide strategic recruitment feasibility assessments and enrollment recommendations to Business Development, Clinical Operations, Project Management, sponsors, and executive leadership.
Develop and manage the department operating budget, resource plan, and investment priorities; evaluate return on investment for recruitment channels, vendors, and technology.
Lead, coach, and develop recruitment leaders and staff; establish succession plans, role expectations, performance standards, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Direct integrated marketing, digital advertising, community outreach, referral, retention, and participant engagement strategies across the study portfolio.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with physicians, healthcare systems, community organizations, advocacy groups, and other referral sources to expand and diversify participant pipelines.
Identify portfolio-level enrollment risks and capacity constraints, lead corrective action planning, and allocate resources to protect study timelines and sponsor commitments.
Evaluate, select, and implement recruitment technologies, analytics tools, vendors, and process improvements that increase scalability, efficiency, data quality, and participant experience.
Establish and maintain participant recruitment policies, procedures, quality controls, and governance practices consistent with company SOPs, applicable regulations, privacy requirements, and ethical research standards.
Represent Participant Recruitment in sponsor meetings, audits, inspections, governance forums, and cross-functional planning sessions; communicate performance, risks, and strategic recommendations.
Partner with Clinical Operations, Project Management, Marketing, Business Development, Finance, Quality, and other departments to support successful study execution and organizational objectives.

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in participant recruitment, healthcare marketing, clinical research, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience leading leaders, developing organizational strategy, and managing departmental performance.
Experience managing departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic initiatives.
Experience presenting operational performance and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated strategic leadership and organizational planning skills.
Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze operational metrics, financial performance, and recruitment trends.
Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and recruitment, marketing, CRM, and business intelligence platforms.
