Position: Facility Technician
Position Summary:
The Facility Maintenance Technician / Shipping & Receiving Coordinator is responsible for maintaining facility infrastructure, performing safety equipment inspections, coordinating shipping and receiving activities, and completing basic carpentry tasks. This role ensures the facility remains safe, compliant, efficient, and operational while supporting material flow and inventory control.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance
- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, and building fixtures.
- Troubleshoot equipment and facility issues and complete repairs in a timely manner.
- Perform basic carpentry work, including framing, drywall repair, door and hardware installation, shelving, and minor structural repairs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in safe, clean, and organized condition.
Safety Equipment Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct scheduled inspections of facility safety equipment, including:
- Fire extinguishers, alarms, and sprinkler systems.
- Emergency exits, exit lighting, and signage.
- Eye wash stations, safety showers, spill kits
- First aid kits, AEDs, and PPE
- Ensure safety equipment is accessible, functional, and compliant with OSHA, NFPA, and company standards.
- Document inspection results, maintain inspection logs, and report deficiencies.
- Coordinate repairs, replacements, and third-party inspections as required.
- Support safety audits, emergency response activities, and preparedness drills.
Shipping & Receiving Coordination
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, condition, and documentation.
- Coordinate unloading, storage, and internal distribution of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Prepare outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and shipping documentation.
- Maintain shipping and receiving records and resolve discrepancies with vendors and carriers.
- Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts (certification required where applicable).
Inventory & Materials Management
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, safety equipment, and shipping materials.
- Track material usage and initiate recorders as needed.
- Support inventory audits and asset tracking activities.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all facility safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and material handling requirements.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards.
- Ensure safe storage and handling of hazardous or regulated materials.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, safety inspections, and shipping/receiving activities.
- Communicate work status, safety issues, and material needs to supervisors and stakeholders.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or inventory systems as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance, shipping/receiving, or a related role.
- Working knowledge of building maintenance systems and basic carpentry.
- Experience conducting inspections or working with safety equipment.
- Ability to read work orders, safety procedures, and ship documentation.
- Basic computer skills (email, logs, inventory systems).
Preferred:
- OSHA safety training or equivalent.
- Forklift or material handling certification.
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or warehouse environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Combination of indoor industrial, warehouse, and office environments.
- Exposure to moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Use of personal protective equipment as required.
