Responsibilities

The Primer Painter is responsible for the spray application of primer to manufactured aerospace parts. Key duties include inspecting parts for damage, mixing paint to specifications, and maintaining spraying equipment and a clean workspace.

Requirements

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and 6 months to 1 year of related experience. Must be a US Person as defined by ITAR regulations and capable of meeting the physical demands of a manufacturing environment.

We are a fully integrated, self-funded non-profit with a social mission to train, employ, and serve persons with disabilities and our community. 

JOB SUMMARY 

As part of our recent growth, we are seeking an experienced Primer Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate will spray application of primer to surfaces of manufactured aerospace parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Visually inspect chemical processing prior to painting to identify failures and damage. If parts appear damaged or wrong, contact the quality department for clarification prior to proceeding.

•    Ensure parts are clean from dirt or foreign material from the part to be painted, and clean them if necessary.

•    Communicate racking position, set up, and layout to Paint Helpers.

•    Select and mix paint to match Work Order requirements.

•    Apply paint to surface of the part using spray gun or pour paint into tubes according to call out.

•    Maintain knowledge of current specifications and call-outs.  

•    Clean and maintain spraying equipment with solvents and other materials.

•    Follow hazardous chemical and waste handling procedures.

•    Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) effectively. This includes maintaining the area of the face where the respirator seals as clean and hair-free.

•    Follow work rules and standard safety regulations at all times.

•    Maintain the cleanliness of the paint area and mixing rooms. Change paint filters as needed.

•    Handles hazardous materials safely - add waste to containers, transfer waste to accumulation bins and label containers. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

•    Ability to apply all primer paints.

•    Ability to establish job priorities without direct supervision utilizing established criteria regarding part size, application, and rack usage.  

•    Adaptable to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.

•    Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.

•    Ability to identify, organize, estimate, and recognize differences or similarities.

•    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.  

•    Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, or manipulate parts.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

•    Ability to read, write, communicate, and/or follow written and verbal instructions in English.    

•    Ability to communicate in English through voice, American Sign Language, or adaptive technology. 

CONFIDENTIALITY 

The responsibilities of this position may require an individual to access and hold in confidence certain information. This means that information and/or documentation acquired about employees, suppliers, customers, business practices, and all other related information remains confidential.  

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

•    High school Diploma/GED 

•    Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

•    Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment with a moderate noise level.

•    Constant exposure to liquid, aerated, and solid hazardous materials.

•    Constant reaching, non-forceful grasping, and fine manipulation.

•    Constant repetitive motion.

•    Constant standing and walking.

•    Constant use of respiratory protection. Must be clean-shaven daily. 

•    Frequent bending, squatting, and twisting.

•    Occasional lifting and moving up to 25 lbs.

•    Occasional sitting while using a computer work station.

•    Occasional working above the shoulders.

•    Seldom lifting and moving up to 40lbs.

SALARY DESCRIPTION

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Skills Inc. is a self-supporting Social Enterprise and is organized as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. We have three lines of business: Aerospace Manufacturing, Aerospace Finishing, and Business Solutions, that operate in 3 locations. Skills Inc. employs over 250 people, and our social mission is to train, employ, and serve persons with disabilities. We accomplish our mission three ways: direct hire, vocational programs and services, and as a resource to the community.

Salary Range: $18.00-$33.00
