Designs, programs, commissions, installs and services automated machinery in accordance with customer requirements and external (CSA, ESA, OSHA, etc), company and department standards and policies. Generally, involves the application of the following technologies; PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, robots, servo systems, industrial networks, databases and PC based software applications.
What You’ll Be Doing
Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and Other Policies
Communicate with engineering in order to fully understand sequence of operations
Validate machinery operations in conjunction with assemblers and electricians
Assist in the design control systems in accordance with customer requirements and company and department standards
Provide technical guidance to other team members with respect to the implementation of particular standards and programming techniques
Program control systems in accordance with customer requirements, company and department standards, and project specific designs
Commission, install and service machinery at the customer site
May provide technical training to customer operations and maintenance staff
Maintain red-lined electrical drawings, as a record of changes made during wiring and debugging

Programming using C++, VB in a Microsoft environment, preferably .Net
Database design and implementation

Must have good written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and internal team members
Level of Autonomy and Authority
Works as a fully qualified professional without detailed supervision, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications. Difficult, complex or unusual matters are referred to more senior authority.
Generally responsible for the design and programming of complete lines or stand-alone machines
May guide and monitor the work of other more junior engineers and technical staff working within the controls department or on the same projects
Provides input to management with respect to the evolution of company and department technical standards and designs
Key Requirements (Education, Experience, and Qualifications)
College or University degree in engineering or related discipline
A minimum of 3 to 5 years progressive experience designing or implementing software and control systems in conjunction with automated machinery, after graduation
Must have a valid passport and driver’s license, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally
Must be available to travel for periods of up to 3 weeks
Special Requirements (physical demands and work environment):
Must be physically able to work with automated machinery from standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling and crouching positions. Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments (oil, dust, etc). May need to lift and/or move moderate weight.
The expected compensation range for this position is $37.85-$47.31. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth.
