The Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) is more than just a yacht club; it’s a vibrant community where Members of all ages come together to celebrate yachting, sport, and tradition on and off the water.
Founded in 1852 as the Toronto Boat Club, the RCYC was renamed in 1854 with the gracious approval of Queen Victoria. With deep roots in Toronto’s maritime heritage, the RCYC served not only as a recreational club but also as an unofficial auxiliary of the Royal Navy, safeguarding the waters of Lake Ontario.
Long associated with the Toronto Islands, the RCYC’s journey to its iconic Island Clubhouse began in 1881 after moving from various Toronto waterfront locations. Despite early setbacks—two Clubhouses lost to fires in 1904 and 1918—the current Southern-style Island Clubhouse was inaugurated in 1919 with a cornerstone laid by Edward, Prince of Wales.
Today, the RCYC operates year-round from two premier locations:
• The Island Clubhouse: A stunning summer retreat offering sailing, sports, and social events against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Ontario.
• The City Clubhouse: Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, it serves as a hub for sports, fitness, dining, and year-round social activities.
At RCYC, we are proud to provide:
• Unmatched Sailing Opportunities: From developing junior sailors to championing competitive racing, our spirit drives our commitment to excellence.
• Diverse Sports & Activities: Squash, tennis, fitness, and more for Members of all skill levels.
• Vibrant Social Events: A calendar packed with celebrations, events, and opportunities to connect with like-minded Members.
• A Family Focus: We encourage multi-generational participation, fostering a love for yachting and community in Members of all ages.
With a rich history, outstanding facilities, and an inclusive spirit, the RCYC is one of Canada’s premier sailing and social institutions—a place where tradition meets innovation and community thrives.
