Full job description

PsychoGenics is a preclinical CRO with expertise in central nervous system (CNS) and orphan disorders.  Our mission is to provide the best validated disease models and comprehensive preclinical capabilities to help companies discover the next generation of treatments for severely disabling CNS and orphan disorders and reduce the attrition rate in clinical development.  We are known for our cutting-edge translational approach to research, our customized solutions, the breadth, and quality of our work, as well as for our ability to identify statistically relevant phenotypic changes that help our clients quantify the efficacy of their treatments before they move into the clinic.  With an extensive portfolio of highly predictive disease models and unparalleled experience performing studies for biopharmaceutical companies of all sizes, we enable clients to deliver much needed superior clinical candidates to patients.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate in our Rat Pharmacology team. The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting preclinical studies using rodent models and tests. The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, conducting preclinical behavioral experiments in rodent models of pain, neurological disorders and other assays as needed. The candidate must be capable of working across teams and independently.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execution of behavioral pharmacology behavior assays evaluating compounds in rat and mouse models of pain (e.g., osteoarthritis, spinal nerve ligation, chemotherapy induced neuropathy, incisional pain) and tests of neurological disordes (e.g., rotarod).
  • Dosing in rats and mice via the following routes: oral (PO), intraperitoneal (IP), subcutaneous (SC), and intravenous (IV).
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis.
  • Adherence to SOPs and IACUC standards.
  • Clear communication both written and oral to supervisor and team members.
  • Occasional weekend and holiday work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's or higher degree in neuroscience or related field; recent PhD grad a plus.
  • At least 2 years of laboratory and behavioral experience with mice and rats, preferably rats.
  • Able to work well in a group atmosphere as well as independently.
  • Good organization and troubleshooting skills.
  • High level of commitment, excellent motivation to perform and to learn.
  • Able to comprehend and comply with all SOPs and IACUC, safety and quality assurance protocols.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Limited availability for night, holiday and weekend work required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with a variety of behavioral pain models and tests in rodents.
  • Experience with dosing and injections used specifically in pain model studies including IA (intraarticular) and Ipl (intraplantar).
  • Experience with rodent survival surgeries.
