The Installation Survey Engineer manages the full survey lifecycle for submarine cable projects, including scope definition, subcontractor oversight, and data reporting. They also support route engineering, burial assessment studies, and the development of technical software tools.
Candidates must hold a master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, geology, or a related field. Proficiency in GIS software and a solid understanding of offshore environments or energy infrastructure are essential.
The Installation Survey Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering survey activities that support the engineering and installation of submarine cable projects.
The role covers the full survey lifecycle, from scope definition and subcontractor management through to data review, reporting, and project close-out.
This position also contributes to route engineering, installation support, technical software development, and knowledge sharing within the Engineering Department.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, survey subcontractors, and project teams to ensure that survey deliverables are completed to the required quality, schedule, and budget.
Define and develop the survey scope of work in line with project requirements
Manage survey subcontractors throughout the full survey lifecycle, including engineering, operational planning, mobilisation, offshore execution, on-site supervision when required, reporting, and charting
Monitor survey quality, progress, and costs to ensure alignment with project objectives
Support cable route design and detailed engineering related to cable installation and protection
Review, manage, and organize survey documentation and data for submission to the Employer or final Client
Contribute to the overall performance and results of the Engineering Department through close cooperation with colleagues and stakeholders
Prepare and maintain forward planning of survey activities, including schedules, workload, and resource coordination
Evaluate survey subcontractor tenders and support the selection of the most technically suitable and commercially effective solution
Support the management and development of engineering software and digital tools, including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, GIS Online, and other relevant platforms
Contribute to engineering activities during project execution, including data analysis, route engineering, burial assessment studies, selection of suitable burial tools, and evaluation of burial tool performance based on track records and/or numerical analysis
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of survey methods, equipment, software, and industry best practices
Organise workshops and targeted training sessions to strengthen survey knowledge and awareness across Company personnel, particularly Installation technicians
Support the Innovation team in developing innovative solutions and verify test and in field experience/test
You are the right fit for this role if you have:
Fluent English, both written and spoken; additional languages are considered an advantage
A master’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline
A solid understanding of energy infrastructure and/or offshore environments
Basic knowledge of geophysical survey tools and survey methodologies
Proficiency in GIS software, which is considered essential for the role
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
Sound decision-making ability, critical thinking, and strong problem-solving skills
A collaborative, results-oriented mindset with the ambition to contribute to continuous improvement and project success
A highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently, effectively prioritize workload, and maintain a proactive and efficient approach
