About Propel Afterschool

At Propel Afterschool, we believe learning doesn't end when the school day does. Every afternoon, our team creates safe, engaging, and enriching experiences where scholars explore new interests, build meaningful relationships, develop confidence, and discover their potential.

Our goal is simple: to make afterschool the best part of a scholar's day. Every staff member plays an important role in creating an environment where scholars feel safe, valued, challenged, and excited to learn.

If you are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children while working as part of a collaborative, supportive team, we'd love to have you join us.

Our Expectations

At Propel Afterschool, every minute matters. We are looking for team members who are committed to creating engaging, meaningful experiences for scholars from the moment they arrive until they are dismissed.

Successful staff members:

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with scholars, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Actively engage with scholars throughout the entire program by participating in activities, conversations, and learning experiences—not supervising from the sidelines.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every scholar feels a sense of belonging.
  • Support positive behavior through consistency, encouragement, and relationship building.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude each day.
  • Work collaboratively and willingly step in wherever support is needed to ensure the success of the program.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with scholars, families, school staff, and fellow team members.
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to contribute to a high-quality afterschool experience.
  • Limit personal cell phone use during program hours and remain fully present and engaged with scholars, except when phones are required for program responsibilities or
  • emergencies.
  • Model Propel's Habits by demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, kindness, perseverance, and integrity.

Classroom Lead

What You'll Do

As a Classroom Lead, you will help create a safe, positive, and engaging environment where scholars look forward to coming every day. This is an active role that requires enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to building positive relationships with scholars.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a group of scholars through daily enrichment activities and routines.
  • Facilitate engaging enrichment activities during teacher-led time.
  • Foster a classroom culture where every scholar feels welcomed, respected, and included.
  • Maintain active engagement with scholars at all times by participating in games, conversations, projects, and activities.
  • Support positive behavior by building relationships, setting clear expectations, and using positive reinforcement.
  • Assist with homework support, academic enrichment, and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Supervise transitions, meals, outdoor play, and field trips while maintaining safety.
  • Work collaboratively with the Site Coordinator, Artists, and fellow staff members.
  • Communicate professionally with staff, scholars, and families.
  • Be flexible and willing to assist wherever needed to support the success of the program.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Attend the end of the year Afterschool Showcase.

✔ Loves working with children.

✔ Is energetic, dependable, and positive.

✔ Can keep scholars actively engaged.

✔ Works well as part of a team.

✔ Is organized and reliable.

✔ Can adapt to changing schedules and needs.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working at an afterschool program
  • Experience as a teacher or paraprofessional in a school
  • Experience working in programming for at-risk populations
  • Belief in a culture of dignity for scholars and staff
