Position Summary:

Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston equipment and supporting equipment.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including but not limited to container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.
  • Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignment
  • Utilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information
  • Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair and work order requests
  • Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasks
  • For yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systems
  • Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staff
  • Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
  • Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor
  • Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
  • Perform other duties as required Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 4+ years related mechanic experience required

  • Knowledge of automotive and heavy-duty equipment repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of safety precautions concerning occupational hazards

  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
