JOB OVERVIEW

To supervisor the engineering staff to perform maintenance and repairs on all aspects of the hotel, along with performing maintenance and repairs on all aspects of the Hotel and premises, except for systems maintained by the IT department.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Managers and hourly staff 

External: Hotel vendors and suppliers

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain daily work schedules for each engineer to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assign work to each engineer based on the priorities of each facility and the abilities of each engineer.
  • Maintain labor and supplies cost within budget
  • Hiring and training maintenance personnel to handle the physical assets of the property.
  • Train each new engineer on all areas of each facility and on basic problem solving to ensure the likelihood of each engineer being able to solve a majority of problems.
  • Hold daily shift meetings with crew to communicate work schedules and hotel issues.
  • Cross train each engineer to ensure experience is shared within the group.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures for reporting time worked and parts used for each engineer.
  • Assist with interviewing prospective candidates for engineer positions.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Communicate status of guest room and equipment outages to Operations daily or whenever situations change.
  • Hold departmental safety meetings at least once per month and after a major safety incident.
  • Support the Safety Committee through participation and follow up on reported safety issues.
  • Complete general repairs, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, painting, refrigeration, electrical, video, and commercial kitchen systems as assigned.
  • Perform assigned work based on the priorities of the facility according to ability. 
  • Complete and train in all areas of each facility and on basic problem solving as assigned.
  • Complete cross training as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Complete preventative maintenance on all equipment as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors as well as with each department the status of repairs for their area.
  • Make safety your number one priority for employees, guest and vendors. 
  • Purchase items for the department as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of spare parts.
  • Diagnose and repair problems as needed.
  • Support the Housekeeping Manager with the Deep Clean Projects.
  • Working as a team with maintenance personnel to handle the physical assets of the property.
  • Assist with maintaining labor and supplies cost within budget.
  • Follow all company policies laid out in the employee handbook.
  • Be on call as assigned.
  • Help create a working environment that is safe, challenging and positive.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years experience in building maintenance. 
  • Experience with diagnosing problems with general repairs, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, painting, refrigeration, electrical, video, and commercial kitchen systems.
  • Certification and/or working knowledge in one or more of the following: HVAC, refrigeration, pool operator, or electrical.
  • Capable of utilizing all tools and diagnostic procedures. 
  • Must possess very good interpersonal and communication skills; will be interfacing with a high percentage of guests as well as other staff members.
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts, may be required to work overtime on occasion when the department is short of personal due to illness or vacation, etc.
  • The ability to listen, empathize, be helpful in all situations and make sound decisions toward the resolution of a potential problem. Must also possess strong human relations skills.
