Full job description

Objectives:

The Ontario NDP Caucus is seeking an experienced creative media producer to join our Strategic Communications team.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the Creative Media Producer will develop, coordinate, shoot and edit compelling video and photographic content for Marit Stiles, Ontario NDP MPPs and the Caucus.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can take a project from the first idea to the final product, manage the practical details of a production and create content people will want to watch and share. The role requires creativity, strong political judgment, excellent organization and the ability to deliver high-quality work on tight timelines.

Responsibilities to the Director of Strategic Communications:

  • Develop original video concepts and recurring formats, and take projects from research and scripting through filming, editing and final delivery.
  • Produce short-form, rapid-response and longer-form video for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X and emerging platforms.
  • Plan and coordinate productions, including calendars, schedules, bookings, locations, participants, equipment, travel and other shoot logistics.
  • Maintain regular correspondence with Caucus staff, MPP offices and external partners to plan content, confirm details and keep productions on schedule.
  • Maintain production records and liaise with contractors, vendors, venues, unions and other stakeholders as required.
  • Write and edit scripts, interview questions, voiceovers, captions and on-screen text.
  • Set up and operate cameras, lighting, microphones and other production equipment.
  • Direct people on camera and help them communicate naturally and confidently.
  • Exercise sound creative and political judgment in fast-moving and breaking-news situations.
  • Maintain production equipment and an organized archive of footage, photographs and project files.
  • Capture and edit high-quality photographs of the Leader, MPPs, community members, events and campaign activities for use across digital and communications platforms.
  • Work closely with communications, social media, media relations, research, outreach and Leader’s Tour staff.
  • Travel throughout Ontario, work occasional evenings and weekends, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of recent professional experience in video production, videography, editing, multimedia production, digital journalism or a related field.
  • Knowledge, appropriate to the position of the NDP, the Ontario government and the workings of the Legislature
  • Demonstrated experience taking video projects from the initial idea through filming, editing and final delivery.
  • A strong portfolio showing excellent video storytelling, filming and editing skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Experience planning and coordinating video shoots, including production schedules, locations, participants, equipment and day-of logistics.
  • Experience operating professional video and photography equipment, with a strong understanding of lighting, composition, audio recording, colour correction and photo editing.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce effective short-form and social-first video content.
  • Strong creative instincts and the ability to find the clearest and most compelling way to tell a story.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including experience writing scripts, interview questions, voiceovers and on-screen copy.
  • Strong political judgment and knowledge of Ontario politics, current affairs and the issues affecting people across the province.
  • Demonstrated reliability and the ability to independently deliver accurate, high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with elected officials, staff, community members and people with different levels of on-camera experience.
  • Ability to respond well to feedback, handle sensitive information with discretion and work calmly in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience in the labour movement or NDP organization and election campaigns would be an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A commitment to the values and goals of the Ontario NDP.
  • Familiarity with equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression policy frameworks
