Nexus Family Recovery Center is a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to helping women and families heal from substance use disorder. We provide a comprehensive continuum of care, from detox through residential and outpatient treatment, rooted in trauma-informed, evidence-based practice and a deep belief that recovery is possible for everyone we serve.

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Children’s Services, the Child Behavioral Interventionist (CBI) provides developmentally appropriate, trauma-responsive behavioral intervention services to infants, toddlers, and young children whose emotional or behavioral functioning has been impacted by adverse childhood experiences, prenatal substance exposure, family stress, or developmental concerns. Responsible for providing educational training to the Child Development Center staff and treatment staff on the impact of trauma on children and effective intervention techniques for Nexus children.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct behavioral observations and developmental screenings.
Assist in identifying emotional, behavioral, sensory, and developmental concerns.
Develop individualized behavioral intervention strategies under clinical supervision.
Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions.
Monitor child progress and adjust interventions as appropriate.
Model effective parenting techniques during parent-child interactions.
Coach caregivers and staff using strength-based and trauma-responsive approaches.
Assist parents in implementing behavior strategies outside structured sessions.
Collaborate with classroom staff to promote positive behaviors.
Assist with behavioral management plans.
Help create emotionally safe and nurturing learning environments.
Support children during difficult transitions or emotional dysregulation.
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
Collaborate with the CDC Director, counselors, recovery advocates, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.
Communicate behavioral observations to treatment teams.
Assists Children’s Services Director in obtaining and maintaining certifications, such as Rising Star.
Attends treatment team meetings as scheduled
Conducts parenting education groups and one-on-one educational opportunities with families identified in need of intervention, guidance, and support with their parenting responsibilities.
Collects data under the direction of the Director of Children’s Clinical Services.
Other duties may be assigned.
QualificationsCompetencies

Ability to offer services with a trauma-responsive approach.
Sensitivity and ability to work with people of various races, cultures, socioeconomic levels and sexual orientations.
Understand and recognize trauma responses.
Understand developmental milestones.
Ability to handle crisis situations and demonstrate skills of de-escalation and conflict resolution.
Ability to use strengths-based interventions.
Ability to develop trusting relationships with children.
Ability to respond calmly during behavioral crises.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Two to three years of related experience.
Registered Child Behavioral Interventionist (CBI) preferred.
Experience in early childhood settings and experience working with families impacted by trauma preferred.
