The Associate Director serves as the lead educator and program strategist for the African American Institute, designing and assessing learning experiences that advance student success and belonging. They are responsible for supervising staff, managing budgets, and cultivating partnerships with academic and community stakeholders.
A Master's degree in a related field and 3-5 years of experience working with marginalized populations are required. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the African diaspora and evidence-based learning practices for student identity development and success.
Job Summary
Affiliated with the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute, one of six centers that comprise Cultural and Spiritual Life (CSL), and reporting to its Director, the Associate Director serves as the Institute’s lead educator and program strategist. Working in collaboration with students, university stakeholders, academic partners, alumni, and community organizations, the Associate Director designs, implements, and assesses programs, services, and learning experiences that advance student learning, leadership development, wellbeing, belonging, resource navigation, and success through African American and African diasporic perspectives.
The Associate Director is responsible for developing student learning outcomes, assessing program effectiveness, and using evidence and feedback to strengthen the Institute’s educational offerings. Particular emphasis is placed on creating intentional leadership development pathways, measuring student learning, and ensuring that signature programs serve as meaningful entry points for engagement, community connection, and success.
The Associate Director cultivates partnerships with academic departments, university offices, student organizations, alumni, and community organizations to expand opportunities for student learning and engagement. The position serves as a key representative of the Institute in collaborative initiatives that advance student success and belonging across the university.
In addition to leading educational programs and initiatives, the Associate Director supervises professional and student staff, advises student organizations, manages program budgets and operations, and supports implementation of the Institute’s strategic priorities. This position requires frequent evenings and weekends in support of student engagement and Institute programming.
