Position: Gatherings Café, Host/Hostess

Hourly Rate: $16.37 per hour | Full-Time
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Host/Hostess at Gatherings Cafe, located within the Minneapolis American Indian Center (MAIC), serves as the first point of contact for guests and plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful dining experience. This position embodies MAIC's mission “to provide excellent services that help meet the needs of the American Indian community within a foundation of cultural values.”
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greeting guests as they arrive and providing excellent customer service to all customers.
- Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to operate point-of-sale systems and answer phone calls.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist customers with any questions or concerns they may have.
- Count and balance cash drawer at the end of each shift.
- Engaging with guests to ensure the quality of food and customer service.
- Memorizing the menu and dietary options
- Supporting other café staff members by assisting with other tasks, as needed.
- Set up and break down internal catering events, ensuring service areas are clean and organized.
- Provide professional table service during meetings, events, and catered functions.
- Open and prepare the cash register for daily operations, ensuring accuracy and readiness for service.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure.
- Must be able to work standing for long periods of time.
- License/Certification: (a) First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate (Preferred)
