We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Tax Assistant to be a valued member of the team, assisting in preparing tax returns and providing organised and professional support to the portfolio holders within the Private Client Trust and Probate team

Main Responsibilities:• Assist in the preparation of tax returns and computations by entering source information provided by clients, including preparing rental income accounts, basic self-employment income and expenditure accounts, and other associated tasks.
• Drafting basic Capital Gains Tax computations, including Capital Gains Tax returns, for senior review.
• Preparing other HMRC forms for senior review, including tax elections, and amending PAYE tax codes.
• Assisting of senior members of the team on tax advisory projects.
• Liaise with HMRC and other professionals regarding client affairs.
• Ensure that professional ethical procedures are adhered to.
• Manage and update the in-house database for client details.
Clients• Maintain an up to date understanding of tax clients.
• Is aware of the wide range of Larking Gowen services and spots opportunities to potentially sell those services to clients.
• Is actively involved in office marketing events when appropriate and is an ‘ambassador’ of the firm.
Other Responsibilities:• Adhere to the firm’s risk management policies and procedures.
• Attend training courses as identified in order to develop both technical and personal skills and keeps records for compliance purposes.
• Consistently achieves deadlines and understands the commercial implications of actions relating to productively, recoverability, fee income and client service.
• Communicate workload with manager or partner.
• Undertake other duties to meet the demands of the business.
• Assist and support other members of staff as required.
Personal SpecificationEducation, qualifications and experienceEssential: • Previous tax experience.
• Minimum English and Mathematics GCSE’s at Grade 9 – 4 (A* - C) or equivalent.
• Experience of using Microsoft packages, internet, email and other computerised packages.
• Intermediate excel spread sheet skills.
• Basic word skills including basic letter writing skills.
• Good customer service skills.
Desirable:• A level education or equivalent experience.
• Part ATT qualified.

• Strong team working, prioritisation and organisational skills.
• Professional.
• Comfortable liaising with clients on a day-to-day basis.
