TITLE: University Transfer Advisor

DEPARTMENT: Student Success

LOCATION: On-Site-Main Campus

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time Staff

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: 

The purpose is to assist students in successfully transitioning from a community college/two-year institution or four-year college or university to Kentucky State University. The role involves providing guidance, support, and information to help students make informed decisions about their academic paths and transfer options. enhance and facilitate student engagement strategies and student leadership development initiatives, as part of a comprehensive effort to improve student success.

The duties of this position are to represent Kentucky State University (KSU) to prospective transfer students and personnel throughout the KCTCS campuses and other institutions within an assigned geographical region. The incumbent will act as the direct contact between prospective students, families, and personnel to KSU Admissions. The incumbent will identify, recruit, and assist with the enrollment of qualified transfer students from assigned campuses to provide a seamless process for the enrollment of transfer students from these schools. This will include advising students into their first semester and/or deferring to the program advisor if necessary. This position will be based at KSU with an assigned KCTCS territory and will cover other territories on a scheduled basis to maximize KSU presence in the region. This position is responsible for advising, coaching, and providing academic interventions with college transfer students. The transfer advisor will perform activities that will assist transfer students in their transition from application at KSU through degree completion. This position must be able to interpret student needs and provide individualized service and support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Recruit prospective students through event attendance, distribution of recruitment materials, providing

consultative services, assisting with prospective student events, and responding to email and phone

inquiries.

  • Travel to KCTCS institutions and satellite campuses within the assigned geographical region to recruit

students.

  • Collaborate with admissions, financial aid, registrar and bursar office to create a seamless enrollment

process for transfer students.

  • Provide academic counseling for transfer students in the pre-enrollment stage, academic coaching and

transition support.

  • Collaborate with Student Success, Advising, and Career Services units to ensure successful transition

to KSU.

  • Collaborate with KCTCS partner institutions to develop, implement, and maintain student pathways.
  • Assist with Transfer Student Orientation Days and onboarding of transfer students.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in developing and implementing transfer student recruitment strategies, resolving complex enrollment or academic advising issues, and recommending policies or processes that enhance student success and institutional transfer initiatives
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current on best practices in recruitment,

advising, and retention.

  • Supports the student affairs unit by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned,
  • Travel and work outside of normal hours will be required on occasion.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

  • Knowledge of transfer articulation processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable University practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of scope, guidelines, and operation of departmental or unit program.
  • Knowledge of basic word processing software and the ability to operate standard PC/PC software.
  • applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of student success strategies.
  • Knowledge of the needs of transfer students.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain records and safeguard confidential information.
  • Ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility. 

OTHER DUTIES: 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with at least two years of experience in an academic advising, enrollment

management or other student services experience with a working knowledge of the structure of higher

education.

 

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort is required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
