Full job description

We are looking for a senior stormwater/water resources engineer who wants to help build something in Alberta. KWL’s Alberta stormwater work is growing, and we are looking for someone who can bring senior judgment to complex municipal and community problems: aging stormwater infrastructure and asset management, retrofit and rehabilitation projects, LID/GSI implementation, flood and drainage planning, water quality expectations, climate resilience, and projects where the “standard answer” may not be the right one.

The Company

We are a 100% employee-owned consulting engineering firm with a long history of practical, community-focused infrastructure work across Western Canada. Our diverse crew includes engineers, technologists, biologists, agrologists, planners, scientists, and more. We began in 1975 and work together in an environment that empowers us to think differently about real-world problems. We want to work with those who, like us, take pride in creating innovative solutions that push the boundaries of conventional practices.

We seek opportunities for continuous improvement in our work and support those who have a passion for excellence. At KWL, we care about each other and strive to create a fun, open and engaging environment that leverages our individual strengths and encourages shared learning.

What You’ll Do

  • Help grow and shape KWL’s stormwater and water resources work in Alberta
  • Build client relationships, pursue opportunities and lead diverse and innovative project teams
  • Be responsible for managing the project delivery on a wide range of stormwater and water resources planning and design projects, including stormwater models and management plans, low impact development design, flood assessment and management plans, and others
  • Identify client needs and project opportunities and tailor projects to fit each client’s objectives, constraints, and decision-making context
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to intermediate and junior team members

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering or related engineering program;
  • A professional engineer registration with APEGA;
  • Minimum of 13+years related work experience;
  • Experience with project and client management;
  • Experience with doing and leading a wide range of stormwater/water resources planning and design work
  • Experience providing technical direction, mentorship, and constructive review to intermediate and junior staff;
  • Client networking and business development experience is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and ability to work with multiple levels of team members in a multi-disciplinary environment

What We Offer

  • A hybrid work environment
  • Temporary Remote work options available
  • Competitive salary and a generous performance-based bonus
  • An opportunity for share ownership upon meeting the eligibility criteria
  • Excellent benefits, including extended health, dental, vision and health care spending account
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program that offers 24/7 support for all employees and their family members via phone or online
  • Group Savings Matching Plan (GRSP/TFSA)
  • Annual Health & Wellness Allowance
  • Ability to create your own work schedule and flexibility for your workday
  • Career Coaching program and continuous support for professional development and growth
  • Opportunities to collaborate with experienced teammates on an award-winning team
  • And more

KWL values diversity and equity within our teams and provides equality of treatment and opportunity to all employees and applicants. We are committed to encouraging applications regardless of age, race, colour, religion, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, and marital status. Recruitment selection will be based on the applicant’s possession of experience, essential skills, knowledge, and capability required to perform the job. Only those selected will be contacted.
