About Kambo Energy Group

Working in partnership with utilities, governments, Indigenous Nations, and other industry partners we reduce energy poverty, accelerate decarbonization, and improve housing in traditionally underserved communities across Canada and the United States. Kambo delivers three in-house programs: Empower Me, Community Power, and the Home Upgrades Program.

Empower Me delivers multilingual education, support, and coaching services to ensure underrepresented communities have access to energy, climate, and home retrofit programs.

Community Power supports Indigenous and Tribal Nations to build, renovate, and improve community housing.

Home Upgrades Program provides fully subsidized energy retrofits to improve affordability for households living in energy poverty.

About the opportunity

Have an impact in your community! Empower Me is seeking dynamic, community-driven, team players ready to hit the ground running in the position of Energy Mentor. Empower Me Energy Mentors promote and implement Empower Me, an energy savings program designed for multi-lingual communities in the GTHA region. Empower Me Energy Mentors are selected based on their roles and influence in these communities. They are trained to help their community reduce their energy usage, and improve home safety, health, and comfort.

The ideal Energy Mentor has experience working with community organizations and understands the unique needs and requirements of their own communities and cultures. They are positive, enthusiastic, and able to maintain calm under pressure. The Energy Mentor is well connected within the GTHA’s immigrant communities and interested in making an impact through their own networks.

Mentors must be native speakers of a language other than English, fluent in English, and have weekday daytime availability.

Required: Fluency in at least one of the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Ukrainian, Russian, or another language commonly spoken by the communities we serve. Speaking multiple languages is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct workshops with community groups online and in person
  • Promote the Empower Me program within your community.
  • Plan and attend community events as a representative of Empower Me
  • Report on relevant experiences working as an Energy Mentor.
  • Maintain accurate records through data entry and record keeping.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Connections to community groups and associations in the GTHA.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and giving presentations.
  • Must be computer literate (Word, Excel, Email, Data entry).
  • Excellent English skills – speak, read and write.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must have own transportation with valid driver’s license.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Outreach, networking or sales experience.
  • Work or volunteer experience with community-level groups.
  • Experience as a workshop facilitator, teacher experience, public speaker, LINC or ESL instructor, or in a similar instructional or presentation role is considered a strong asset.
  • Organization and planning skills.
  • Familiarity with energy, sustainability, and conservation or willingness to learn.
