COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Hillside Fellowship

Communications Department | Full-Time | Exempt

Reports To: Communications Team Lead

Schedule: Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Communications Coordinator supports the Communications Team in implementing and executing internal and external communications that clearly and consistently communicate Hillside Fellowship's mission, vision, and values. This role serves as the operational coordinator of Hillside's communication efforts, bringing together communication planning, project workflows, messaging development, and campaign execution across ministries and departments.

Working collaboratively with ministry leaders and the Communications Team, this role helps ensure communications are clear, timely, strategically aligned, and effectively executed. The Communications Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for communication requests and plays a key role in creating clarity, organization, and momentum across the department's communication initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication Planning + Coordination

  • Coordinate communication projects related to church-wide and ministry-specific events and initiatives
  • Manage communication timelines, approvals, deliverables, and project execution to support clear and timely communication
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders and the Communications Team to ensure projects align with Hillside's communication strategy, branding, and style guide
  • Manage and maintain the master communications calendar, based on priorities established by the Communications Team Lead
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ministry communication requests, project intake, project status updates, scheduling, and day-to-day communication coordination
  • Partner with ministry leaders to gather project information and coordinate communication execution while working under the strategic direction of the Communications Team Lead
  • Review incoming communication requests for completeness, clarify project expectations with requesting ministries, and identify any additional information needed prior to project scheduling
  • Support special projects and additional communications initiatives as assigned

Messaging + Content Development

  • Draft, develop, and edit communication copy for church-wide and ministry-specific communications
  • Develop communication briefs, promotional messaging, campaign content, and supporting communication materials based on approved ministry objectives
  • Coordinate content needs across communication channels, ensuring consistency in messaging and tone
  • Proofread communication materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and alignment with Hillside's brand standards
  • Partner with the Creative Communications Specialist to ensure content is effectively translated into visual and digital communications
  • Recommend appropriate communication channels, content formats, and communication timelines for routine ministry communications

Organization + Workflow Management

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Maintain and track project timelines, communication deliverables, production schedules, and workflow visibility
  • Improve communication workflows and processes that support team efficiency and collaboration
  • Create and maintain systems that improve communication planning, project visibility, and team effectiveness
  • Maintain communication assets, templates, file organization, and department resources to support consistent and efficient communication

Volunteer Coordination + Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate the Photography Serve Team schedule and communication needs
  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training opportunities for Communications serve teams
  • Build healthy relationships with volunteers, staff, and vendors in a collaborative and servant-hearted manner
  • Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to support the broader needs of the Communications Team

Additional Responsibilities

  • This role may include additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission and leadership of Hillside Fellowship, with the scope of responsibilities growing and adapting as organizational needs change

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Faith + Character

  • Demonstrates a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and embodies the culture and values of Hillside Fellowship (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Must be a member of Hillside Fellowship or willing to pursue membership within six months of hire
  • Approaches communication and collaboration with humility, creativity, and a servant-hearted mindset

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, media, or a related field preferred
  • Experience in communications project management, content development, campaign planning, marketing, or related communication work required
  • Experience in a ministry or church setting preferred
  • Experience coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables preferred

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic ministry environment
  • Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to create clarity, organization, and momentum in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, volunteers, and outside vendors
  • Working knowledge of content development, communication planning, project management, and workflow systems that support effective communication execution
  • Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Mailchimp, Asana, and related communication tools
  • Desire to continue learning and staying current with communication trends and best practices
  • Ability to pass a background check is required
