JOB DESCRIPTION – Senior Staff Accountant (Accountant III-IV) 

Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan, onsite, M-F, 7:30am-4:30pm 

Reports To: Financial Controller 

Position Summary 

HERCO is a small business company seeking a hands-on Senior Staff Accountant to support accounting and financial transactions for a growing project-based organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. 

Key Responsibilities 

General Accounting

• Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger (GL). 
• Perform monthly account and bank reconciliations. 
• Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure financial data accuracy. 
• Support month-end and year-end close activities. 
• Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting. 
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting procedures. 

Project & Manufacturing Accounting

• Support WIP (Work-in-Process) reporting and project cost tracking. 
• Assist with percentage-of-completion accounting and progressive invoicing. 
• Reconcile earned revenue versus invoiced amounts. 
• Monitor project costs and profitability. 

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Inventory

• Support accounts payable and vendor reconciliations. 
• Support accounts receivable, customer invoicing, cash application, and collections. 
• Assist with inventory management, inventory reconciliations, and physical inventory counts. 
• Investigate and resolve inventory and account variances. 

Audit & Process Improvement

• Prepare schedules and documentation for audits, tax advisors, and banking partners. 
• Support annual financial close activities using SAP Business One (SAP B1). 
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency using AI, ERP, etc.

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred. 
• 4-7 years (Accountant III), 7+ years (Accountant IV) of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing and/or project-based environment. 
• Strong experience with: 
• Bank Reconciliations 
• Journal Entries 
• GL Maintenance 
• Chart of Accounts 
• Accounts Payable 
• Accounts Receivable 
• Inventory Management 
• Month-End Close 
• Financial Reporting 
• ERP Systems (SAP Business One preferred) 
• Advanced Excel and strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 

$87,000 - $115,000 Salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and skills.
