Welcoming you to our team:
Our Marine Services / Marine Advisory and Warranty function plays a central role in supporting offshore operations, vessel assurance, and marine consultancy work globally. Based in London and working flexibly as a freelance specialist, you will collaborate closely with senior engineers, mariners, and project managers across the business. You will support Marine Warranty, Marine Advisory, inspections, and rig move activities, contributing both offshore and onshore expertise. The Department team plays an integral role in marine operations of all sizes, from new technology demonstrators to the largest energy projects. The role would suit a practical engineer looking to broaden their skills across a wide range of disciplines and has an interest in helping operations develop from the drawing board to execution.
What does success look like in this position?
In this role, success means confidently coordinating vessel attendances across Marine Warranty, Marine Advisory, inspections, and rig moves, ensuring the right mariners are deployed at the right time using both internal expertise and a strong external network. You will carefully review the experience and competence of mariner candidates, maintaining a high-quality, trusted database that reflects Global Maritime’s standards.
You will actively contribute to business development by spotting opportunities, building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and preparing high-quality tenders that help secure new work. Delivering consultancy projects from start to finish comes naturally to you, whether that involves conducting detailed quantitative and qualitative risk analyses or carrying out vessel surveys such as OVID, IMCA CMID, and MWS inspections.
Success also means being hands-on—attending a wide range of vessels including MODUs, OSVs, pipelay and dive support vessels—conducting assurance audits, witnessing testing and trials, and reporting clear, insightful findings. You produce accurate, well-structured technical reports supported by sound calculations and always deliver on time. You confidently supervise and approve marine operations, act as a trusted client representative during offshore installation works, and respond to client queries with clarity and professionalism. Ultimately, you are proactive, commercially aware, technically strong, and a credible ambassador for the Marine Services function.
How you make an impact:
As our Senior Engineer – Marine Services (Freelance) you will make a significant impact by providing agile commercial leadership that considers the technical complexities of our Marine Services, championing knowledge sharing, and promoting standardization and consistency across our global team. You will monitor business stream performance, proactively identifying and mitigating potential commercial and market risks, and collaborate closely with team members to address technical challenges, resource constraints, and project risks to ensure smooth project execution. Your contributions will be vital to accurate business stream forecasting and budgeting activities, and you will actively manage and coordinate resources, driving progress across Marine Services activities. Identifying and pursuing new business development opportunities, including expanding our mariner network and supporting service growth, will form a key part of your role. In collaboration with the BD Director, facilitating cross-selling opportunities, and leveraging growth potential. Furthermore, you will contribute to the development and effective application of the group Business Management System, ensuring our service offering remains competitive and aligned with market needs, and you will maintain and develop strategic relationships with key clients and other stakeholders.
