About the Role
Garfield Counseling Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as Nurse Supervisor for our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) on a part-time basis, 2–3 days per week. This role leads day-to-day nursing operations, supervising a team of 2 dosing/staff nurses while ensuring safe, compliant, and compassionate delivery of medication for opioid use disorder (methadone and buprenorphine). The Nurse Supervisor partners closely with our Medical Director and multidisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, integrated care to individuals in recovery.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a nurse who wants to combine direct clinical care with team supervision on a flexible, part-time schedule, in a mission-driven environment making a real difference in the fight against the opioid epidemic.
What You'll Do
-Supervise, schedule, and support a team of 2 dosing/staff nurses, ensuring consistent and compliant coverage of the dosing line
- Administer and oversee medication administration (methadone, buprenorphine, and other medications) per physician orders and federal/state regulations
- Conduct nursing assessments, monitor for side effects, withdrawal, or diversion concerns, and maintain accurate medication administration records
- Train, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff performance
- Maintain proper storage, security, and inventory control of controlled substances in compliance with DEA and
SAMHSA requirements
- Respond to medical emergencies, including opioid overdose response (naloxone administration)
- Coordinate care with the Medical Director, prescribing clinicians, and counseling staff for shared clients
- Support survey and audit readiness for CARF, SAMHSA, DEA, and Illinois IDHS/DBHR
- Provide client education on medication, side effects, and harm reduction
What We're Looking For
- Current, active, unrestricted RN license in the State of Illinois
- Current CPR/BLS certification (ACLS a plus)
- Prior nursing leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Experience in substance use disorder treatment, an Opioid Treatment Program, or behavioral health strongly preferred
- Familiarity with 42 CFR Part 8, DEA controlled substance regulations, and electronic health records (EHR) systems a plus
- A compassionate, non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach to working with individuals in recovery
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team
