About FFC

Fusion Fuel Cycles is building the foundation for the global fusion fuel supply chain—starting in Canada.

Spun out from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Kyoto Fusioneering, FFC combines 70+ years of national lab expertise, private-sector execution, and Japanese engineering excellence to develop the systems and infrastructure needed to power fusion pilot plants and transform the energy landscape.

At FFC, you’ll work alongside world-class scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs pushing the boundaries of fusion readiness. We’re small, mission-driven, funded, and scaling fast. If you’re energized by building from the ground up and want to play a meaningful role in bringing fusion energy to life – join us.

Job Summary

The Process Engineering Lead is a senior individual contributor responsible for the development, integration, and technical oversight of process engineering activities. This role will provide technical leadership for process engineering activities supporting FFC's fusion fuel cycle systems. You will own the development and integration of process designs and technical deliverables while coordinating engineering activities across disciplines, suppliers, and project teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role serves as the technical authority for assigned systems and workstreams and is responsible for coordinating engineering activities, reviewing technical deliverables, and ensuring process designs support successful fabrication, testing, commissioning, and operation.

Required Strengths and Competencies

  • Lead development of process engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, process data sheets, equipment specifications, and design calculations, coordinating with technology experts in FFC.

  • Own process engineering activities from basic design through commissioning.

  • Perform and review process equipment and line sizing calculations, including pressure drop calculation, conductance calculation, heat and material balance and chemical reaction kinetics calculation.

  • Coordinate process engineering activities with mechanical, electrical, controls, safety, and operations disciplines.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and day-to-day support to engineers and designers.

  • Review external vendor’s and subcontractor’s process related calculation.

  • Support HAZOPs, design verification, and technical risk assessments.

  • Support commissioning and startup activities.

  • Maintain process engineering documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support customer interactions and technical discussions.

  • Deliver process engineering work packages and technical documentation.

  • Ensure technical quality, consistency, and traceability of engineering deliverables.

  • Maintain process engineering standards and support QMS requirements.

  • Coordinate activities to meet project schedules and objectives.

  • Support multidisciplinary integration and technical decision-making.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Must have

  • Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear, or Process Engineering

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain within one year.

  • 8+ years of process engineering experience in nuclear, energy, chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries.

  • Strong understanding of process design.

  • Experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, HAZOPs, HMBs, process data sheets, and equipment specifications.

  • Experience performing process equipment sizing calculations.

  • Strong understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards.

  • Experience working within ISO 9001 quality management systems.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated experience taking first-of-a-kind systems from concept through commissioning.

  • Understanding of fabrication, testing, validation, and commissioning of system and equipment.

  • Familiarity with CSA N285, N299, ASME, B51, NBCC, and NFCC is considered an asset.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision benefits.

  • Competitive paid vacation and sick time.

  • Small, tight-knit team with low barriers to action.

  • Exposure to a wide variety of problems for unparalleled, hands-on professional growth.
