JOB SUMMARY
This Power Plant Assistant Operator Trainee position is responsible to assist the Power Plant Assistant Operator in ensuring the safe operation of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment. Maintains a continuous watch of boilers and auxiliary equipment and takes readings hourly. Assists the Assistant Power Plant Operator with operational duties for the safe and efficient operation of the plant. Ensure the cleanliness of the plant, including the Biochar and ASH systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Power Plant Assistant Operator Trainee duties include but are not limited to having the responsibility to assist in monitoring and operating boilers and auxiliary plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations, making necessary adjustments to maintain safety and efficiency while maintaining environmental regulations. Always perform your duties in a safe, responsible and productive manner. Must not be afraid of heights or confined spaces and comply with lock-out and safety procedures. Must comply with Hazmat procedures and have the ability to operate a 1 ½” fire hose.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Be alert to pedestrian and other truck traffic – there can be much congestion in and around the plants and co-gen facility.
Be alert to surface conditions – changes from concrete to asphalt, wet and slippery floors, debris on the ground
Follow company refueling practices. Wearing protective gloves when refueling is mandatory.
Must be able to work under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities are not limited to the above mentioned and may include assisting other branches within reasonable and related tasks.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Handle tools, equipment, fine motor skills
Reach with hands and arms
Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet
Access confined spaces and pressure vessels
Operate a fire hose and other fire extinguishing equipment to the extent required to extinguish fire
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Must be able to mount and dismount vehicle multiple times per shift
Climbing Ladders
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly
Must be able to wear a full- face respirator
Kneeling / Squatting
Working in Wet/Cold/ Hot and Inclement weather, inside and outside
Must be able to work long hours if needed, including holidays
Flexible Schedule
May come in contact with propane, hydraulic oil, motor oil, engine coolant, diesel fuel, spray paint, ink, grease
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: Min. 2 years working in a powerplant operation or 3 years related experience
Mechanical skills sufficient to perform varied mechanical tasks such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections
Knowledge, understanding and experience with the operation of a steam generating power plant
Experience with water treatment and water treatment testing a plus
Able to work under limited supervision
Self-starter / Motivated individual
Strong and positive communication in both verbal and in writing
Safety-minded
Able to Multi-Task
