TITLE: 6-month temp Warehouse Operator 
DEPARTMENT: Operations  
WORK LOCATION/OFFICE:  Acheson Service Center                                                               
STATUS: 30 Temp - Hourly  
NUMBER OF HIRES: 2                  

                

DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Warehouse Operations, the Warehouse Operator works with a highly skilled team in the Acheson Service Centre (ASC). The Warehouse Operator puts together material orders for delivery to numerous sites in our service territory and performs all other tasks related to material management. Key clients are the Projects groups and Network Operations that ultimately serve our external customers.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Receive, construct, ship, return and properly store material in the Acheson Service Centre.
  • Load and unload all scheduled and unscheduled deliveries and returns, while maximizing trailer loads to minimize freight costs.
  • Pick and pack orders in a high-volume warehouse environment.
  • Perform quality control and fix errors on orders being picked, loaded and shipped to ensure a high level of customer service.
  • Apply safe work practices and perform safety audits.
  • Follow all environmental requirements set by FortisAlberta on PCB’s, spills and cleanup.
  • Exercise good housekeeping duties to ensure a safe and organized work atmosphere.
  • Maintain accuracy day to day through SAP on spot counts, inventory counts, discrepancies and accountabilities.
  • Organizing outgoing and incoming truck and trailers to accommodate yard constraints.
  • Contribute towards building an efficient and effective team.
  • Extensive use of SAP to identify new materials through receiving, process materials, check stock quantities, and identify discrepancies as well as old materials coming through returns.
  • Yard maintenance as required, including snow removal and grading.
  • Operate machinery, loader, inside and outside forklifts as required.
  • Advise team members on process improvements and changes.
  • Work with team leads on providing and facilitating on the job training to peers and summer students
  • Wood pole repair and reuse inspection.
  • Maintain standards for recycled and salvaged materials and coordinate pickups.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to work both independently with little or no direct supervision and as a member of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple requests.
  • Strong sense of safety and ability to promote and apply safe work practices.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and share these learning’s with other employees.
  • Good working knowledge in SAP, Microsoft Office and other desktop applications.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A High School diploma is required
  • Physical capability of safely lifting heavy objects up to 35KG is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in a warehouse environment is an asset.
  • Forklift operator experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the electrical utility industry would be considered an asset.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract.
  • On call as required.
  • Duties include inside and outside work in all weather conditions.
  • Travel away from home overnight may be required.
  • This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
