The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, solid computer proficiency, the ability to manage time-sensitive operational information, and an interest in maritime, logistics, transportation, or terminal operations.

Schedule Requirements

This position requires the ability to work part-time (30 hours per week).

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare vessel stowage plans to ensure containers on the load list have assigned stow positions in accordance with Central Planner requirements.
  • Support efficient vessel operations by maximizing space, balancing vessel weight, and helping ensure containers are accessible for loading and unloading by quay cranes.
  • Email completed BAPLIE files to the Central Planner and Cargo Operations for final approval or requested changes.
  • Work directly with Central Planners and Cargo Operations to resolve requested changes and communicate vessel movements with appropriate parties.
  • Sequence load and discharge operations, prepare vessel working letters, print required paperwork, and forward reefer and hazardous manifests.
  • Complete and email pre-operations turnover documentation with clear operational notes for Vessel Operations.
  • Update actual numbers in the DTP spreadsheet, empty actual versus VEPO data, and other Strategy measurements as assigned.
  • Communicate with Yard, Vessel, ILA, and other operational teams as needed to support a fluid vessel execution process focused on safety and efficiency.
  • Communicate status updates to the Assistant Operations Manager regarding pre-planning progress.
  • Identify and communicate yard pile challenges, crane or yard conflicts, and other operational issues that may affect vessel planning.
  • Reconcile vessel load lists, including no-load containers and containers on hold, and communicate applicable lists to steamship lines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in supply chain, logistics, maritime, transportation, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experience using computers for a variety of work-related tasks.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to organize, plan tasks, conduct basic internet research, and communicate clearly with personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and management.
  • Must be authorized to work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field of study preferred.
  • Supply chain, logistics, maritime, transportation, or terminal operations experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of terminal operating systems preferred, including Tideworks applications such as Mainsail and Spinnaker.
  • Basic understanding of vessel stability, trim, yard pile layout, traffic flow, and terminal operating systems preferred.

Work Environment

  • Work involves exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and equipment-related hazards.
  • Requires climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and wearing PPE.
  • This is an on-site role that requires availability for rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel.
