Career journeys at the FT
At the FT, your next career opportunity could be just a few steps away. We believe in empowering our people to grow, develop and shape their careers without needing to look elsewhere. Whether you’re curious to explore a different part of the business, ready to build on your strengths, or keen to take on a fresh challenge, internal mobility is one of the most powerful ways to grow with us.
The FT is a place where innovation, collaboration and ambition are encouraged at every turn. You’re already working with colleagues who support each other’s development, and leaders who value your potential as much as your performance. As part of a global organisation driven by purpose and powered by trust, you have access to a wide network of roles and learning opportunities designed to help you thrive. There’s no one-size-fits-all career path at the FT – just a supportive environment where you can follow your curiosity and discover where it leads.
Build a newsworthy career at the FT.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
We believe in the power of unique perspectives and want all voices in our organisation to be heard, respected and valued. A supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves and operate to their full potential. We are committed to removing barriers for everyone, with a focus on addressing those faced by underrepresented groups.
The Role
The Financial Times is looking for a New York-based Executive Producer to join our award-winning Audio team on a six-month fixed-term contract. You’ll work across two of the FT’s flagship podcasts: FT News Briefing, our daily news show, and Unhedged, our twice-weekly markets podcast.
This is an opportunity to shape the editorial direction of two high-profile shows that reach audiences around the world. Working alongside our hosts, producers and the FT’s global network of reporters and editors, you’ll help deliver authoritative, engaging journalism that explains the biggest stories in business, finance and world affairs.
You’ll be responsible for driving editorial decision-making, ensuring consistently high production standards and responding quickly when news breaks. The role requires outstanding news judgement, strong editorial leadership and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving newsroom. You’ll also help identify new opportunities to grow audiences across podcast platforms, social media and YouTube.
Our Audio team thrives on collaboration, curiosity and flexibility, making this an exciting opportunity for an FT colleague who wants to develop their editorial leadership and work at the heart of a busy newsroom.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the editorial planning and daily output of FT News Briefing, including running morning editorial meetings and overseeing scripts and audio production.
Attend newsroom conferences and work closely with editors across the FT to identify the day’s most important stories.
Provide editorial guidance and feedback to hosts and producers throughout the production process.
Coordinate legal review where required, ensuring content meets editorial and legal standards.
Respond quickly to breaking news by reshaping programme line-ups and sourcing new contributors.
Build strong relationships across the newsroom to identify exclusive stories, features and future coverage opportunities.
Partner with marketing and social media teams to maximise audience engagement.
Oversee editorial planning, recordings and final edits for Unhedged, including approving episodes and supporting social content.
Edit show notes and oversee publication workflows across both podcasts.
Required Transferable Skills
We welcome applications from colleagues across the FT who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills and an interest in developing their career in audio journalism and editorial leadership.
Strong editorial judgement and a clear instinct for identifying the stories that matter most to FT audiences.
The ability to write, edit and shape clear, compelling editorial content. Experience with audio scripts is valuable, but transferable editing and storytelling skills from other formats are also relevant.
Strong organisational and editorial leadership skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and make confident decisions under tight deadlines.
An understanding of FT journalism, our editorial standards and the needs and interests of our audiences.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with presenters, producers, reporters, editors and colleagues across different teams and bureaux.
Confidence working with digital production tools and an ability to learn new systems quickly. Experience with professional digital audio workstations or Descript would be useful.
An interest in business, finance or markets journalism. Existing knowledge of these areas would be beneficial but is not essential where strong transferable editorial skills can be demonstrated.
An understanding of how journalism can reach and engage audiences beyond its primary format, including through podcast platforms, social media and YouTube.
A proactive approach to generating ideas that can strengthen our journalism and grow audience engagement.
Colleagues with experience in Editorial, production, digital publishing, audience engagement or other roles involving strong editorial decision-making and storytelling are encouraged to apply where they can demonstrate these transferable skills.
