Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analytical/Assessment Skills

  1. Promotes and screens potentially eligible WIC families via telephone, in-person or internet based inquiries.
  2. Accurately assesses and documents income determination, I.D., proof of residency and proof of pregnancy for certification appointments
  3. Ensures compliance with documentation requirements including obtaining necessary signatures and records retention requirements as specified in WIC policy
  4. Schedules appointments following WIC policies and procedures for procession standards, re-certification guidelines and benefit issuance
  5. Uses WIC reports to maintain WIC caseload to perform functions of making appointment reminder phone calls and texts and rescheduling missed appointments

Policy Development/Program Planning Skills

  1. Responsible for knowing WIC policies and procedures located on WICShare
  2. Follows Health Department and Project Specific policies locates on the Health Drive
  3. Attends WIC and Health Department staff meetings
  4. Completes necessary annual trainings including but not limited to CPR, WIC Confidentiality, ROSIE Security, Mandated Reporter, Blood borne Pathogens
  5. Assist with other health department duties and activities as assigned
  6. Participates in professional development activities (i.e. meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.) to improve and remain abreast of professional & legislative advancements & innovations.

Communication Skills

  1. Ability to relate to clients with understanding and compassion for their needs utilizing person centered principles.
  2. Demonstrate tact and good judgment with dealing with people
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relations
  4. The ability to find equivalent means of expression in each language even when there are no equivalent words. 
  5. Good memory for mechanism to record what is said. Working knowledge of time management. 
  6. Employ strategies to assure culturally-sensitive public health and health service delivery systems.
  7. Maintain a work environment that supports and accommodates the needs of breastfeeding mothers and their infants.
  8. Assess strengths of individuals and communities and respond appropriately to their needs based on sensitivity to and respect for their diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic status.

Public Health Science Skills

  3. Conduct medical screenings for hemoglobin and take anthropometric (height and weight) measurements in accordance with State WIC policies and procedures.
  4. Respond to Public Health emergencies, as needed, including outside regular office hours.
  5. Promotes adjunctive WIC program including but not limited to Farmers Market, Fit Families, and WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling

Financial Planning and Management Skills

  1. Ability to perform math skills to determine income eligibility

Leadership and Systems Thinking Skills

  1. Quality improvement facilitation
  2. May be assigned to coordinate or manage variety of projects per WIC Director

Direct Service Skills

  1. Assists in maintaining WIC office purchasing and invoicing process including ordering office and medical supplies and rendering invoices upon receiving items.
  2. Assist in preparing and ordering WIC nutrition education materials 
  3. Assist in scheduling meetings, conferences, trainings and travel for WIC staff
  4. Ability to type appropriately and correctly
  5. Ability to perform various clerical tasks; i.e. answer phone, take applications, schedule appointments, reminder phone calls, text messages, and process transfers
  6. Ability to operate various modern office equipment and applicable software programs including but not limited to computers, multi-line phone system, faxes, iPads, cell phones, ROSIE software, Wisconsin Immunization Registry, Wisconsin Forward Health Portal, DocuSign, Cornerstone, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, Webex 
  7. Ability to maintain accurate and complete records
  8. Ability to efficiently schedule participants
  9. Produces statistical tables, forms, labels and reports as requested by WIC Team
  10. Provides computer, clerical and reception services
  11. Prepares and maintains client records and files 
  12. Ability to perform various WIC tasks on office computer; including texting WIC participants, running reports such as appointment/benefit/no-show reports to help in maintaining WIC participation and caseload
  13. Prepare new client packets
  14. Check screening equipment for accuracy and assure items are stocked nightly
  15. Perform quality control and calibration on WIC screening tools including but not limited to Hemocue, stadiometer, scales (adult and baby), pronto machine
  16. Maintains appointment schedules and related paperwork
  17.  Responsible for cleaning exam room between screening clients and ensuring workspace is kept clean
  18. Demonstrate a positive attitude, time management skills and respect on a daily basis.
  19.  

Other duties may be required and assigned, by WIC Director; including responding to an emergency event.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Graduation from High School.
