Full job description

About Us

Familiar Machines & Magic (FM&M) is building the Physical AI platform for human connection, beginning with Familiars — physically embodied AI systems designed to form long-term, emotionally intelligent relationships with people. Our mission is to create artificial life to build a more caring world.

Founded by industry leaders from iRobot, Outrider, and Amazon, our team has collectively deployed over 50 million consumer robots worldwide and led advances in navigation, machine learning, and human-robot interaction.

Familiar Machines & Magic is building a mission-driven team of high performers, anchored in our unique Culture Principles and Ways of Working.

Position overview

We're looking for a part-time Social Content Creator to own the production of short-form video and other social content that introduces the world to Familiars. This is a hands-on contract role for someone who lives in the feed—equally comfortable on camera and behind it, and fluent in what actually earns reach on social. You'll translate a new and unfamiliar category (emotionally intelligent Physical AI) into video that stops the scroll and makes people feel something.

This role is for a maker. You'll shoot, edit, and ship at a high cadence, testing constantly and optimizing for distribution. The right person is as motivated by a breakout view count as by beautiful footage.

What You'll Do

  • Produce a steady volume of short-form video for Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn—both face-to-camera and faceless formats.

  • Optimize first for algorithmic reach and audience growth, balancing it with brand aesthetics.

  • Repurpose existing assets—prototype footage, investor video, B-roll––into native, platform specific content.

  • Create supporting graphics and motion assets in Canva/Figma and Photoshop.

  • Treat the consumer channels like a funnel: lead with emotive storytelling and mission, then layer in product specifics over time.

  • Test relentlessly—hooks, formats, lengths, sounds—and use performance data to decide what to make next.

  • Collaborate closely with our marketing lead and copywriter to keep video on brand.

  • Move fast on reactive moments (press hits, podcast drops, notable comments, trends) when timing matters.

What You'll Have

  • 3+ years creating short-form video that has demonstrably grown an audience or driven reach on social platforms.

  • A portfolio or set of accounts showing both on-camera and faceless video work.

  • Strong editing skills and fluency with the tools of the trade, including Canva/Figma/Photoshop and Edits, CapCut, FinalCut Pro.

  • A working understanding of how the major platform algorithms reward content, and a track record of using that to grow reach.

  • Experience building and maintaining a content calendar optimized for testing and growth.

  • The ability to self-direct a shoot end to end—concept, capture, edit, publish.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • An instinct for hooks and storytelling that make people stop, watch, and share.

  • Comfort being on camera.

  • A bias toward shipping and iterating over perfecting.

  • Genuine excitement for a new and unfamiliar category, and the patience to help build it.

  • Clear communication and easy collaboration across a small, fast-moving team.

  • Openness to new tools and AI-powered workflows.

Compensation
This is a part-time contract role. The expected hourly range is $40–$60, based on experience and a demonstrated track record of growing reach.

Please Note: We have often hired those that do not meet the exact requirements but that we found to be a great culture fit and have the relevant experience to be successful in the role. Please consider applying if this is you.
