Full job description
This is an opportunity for a talented professional to join our Statistics and Reporting team as an Energy Data Analyst. You will be responsible for managing market data workflows, optimization, and reliability of HEnEX reporting mechanisms for energy as well as the design and architecture of HEnEX’s statistical databases.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
⚙️ Data Engineering & Modeling
SSAS Data Modeling: Architect, deploy, and maintain enterprise SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) models, including Tabular and/or Multidimensional cubes, to serve as a single source of truth for energy market metrics.
Database & ETL Architecture: Design, implement, and optimize database changes and statistical data schemas across both Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL) and Oracle (PL/SQL) environments.
Exchange Protocols & XML Processing: Build and maintain automated pipelines to ingest, parse, and validate complex market data from various sources, specializing in XML files and structured exchange data protocols.
Data Security Compliance: Follow established organizational security standards for data protection, ensuring database permissions and basic data-at-rest/in-transit configurations align with compliance mandates.
Infrastructure Monitoring: Develop and refine in-house or third-party monitoring tools to oversee the performance and integrity of HEnEX reporting mechanisms.
📊 Market Data Management, Reporting Automations and BI
Data Workflow & Reporting: Manage, validate, and deliver daily, periodic, and ad-hoc market reports, statistics, and indicators.
Power BI Integration: Connect Power BI seamlessly to underlying SSAS semantic models. Implement advanced DAX queries, performance tuning, and optimization for fast report rendering across large-scale transactional datasets.
Advanced Analytics & KPIs: Lead the analysis of large-scale data warehouses to develop, refine, and monitor critical market KPIs, trading alerts, and statistical anomalies.
Market Operations & Invoicing: Oversee and run the automated tasks for calculating and invoicing charging fees and penalties for HEnEX members according to the regulatory framework.
👥 Leadership & Compliance
Regulatory compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory changes which affect the business of the Department (REMIT and other regulatory framework).
Mentorship: Actively mentor junior and mid-level analysts, fostering a culture of technical excellence in SQL, SSAS modeling, Power BI, and modern data practices.
Documentation & Governance: Ensure comprehensive, end-to-end technical documentation is created and maintained for all database designs, SSAS models, ETL pipelines, and reporting solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements
University degree in Mathematics/Economics / Finance / Business or Engineering (preferably, Electrical or Computer).
Energy Sector Background: 2+ years of experience in the energy sector is strongly preferred.
Regulatory Understanding: Familiarity with energy market regulation (REMIT, REMIT transaction reporting, or ACER guidance) will be considered an advantage.
Technical & Tooling Skills
SSAS Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience building, deploying, and optimizing data models within SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). Advanced knowledge of DAX and MDX is essential.
Database Mastery: Deep expertise in writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, and packages in SQL Server (T-SQL) and Oracle SQL (PL/SQL).
BI & Reporting: Advanced proficiency in MS Power BI (connecting to SSAS models, row-level security implementation, and advanced data visualization) and advanced Excel.
Data Protocols & Formats: Hands-on experience working with electronic exchange data protocols and processing/parsing XML schemas.
Data Security (Basic): Basic familiarity with corporate data security concepts (e.g., recognizing when data requires secure transit protocols like SFTP or HTTPS). Deep cryptographic or encryption-building experience is not required.
Programming: Advanced knowledge of Python or R (specifically for data engineering, ETL scripting, or advanced XML parsing) is highly preferred.
