Responsibilities

Production Associates are responsible for assembling wire harnesses and preparing materials following strict work instructions and SOPs. They perform tasks including stripping, soldering, testing, and packing products while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Requirements

A High School Diploma or GED is required, though no prior professional experience is necessary. Candidates must possess basic arithmetic, reading, and writing skills, and be able to use basic hand tools and computers.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Associates (PA) follow work instructions to prepare material for further use in the production process or produce material which is sent directly to the customer. Production Associates are encouraged to learn all aspects of the manufacturing process which may involve computer use, manipulating or cutting wire, operating equipment, using hand tools, soldering, testing product, reading and using work instructions or prints, inspecting product, assembling, building, labeling or packing product. Production Associates at all levels give constant attention to the quality of work and material, while also attending to safety, housekeeping, and time efficiency.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Giving attention to safety, housekeeping, time efficiency and materials applies to all processes:

• Ensure the workplace is consistently clean and orderly and is free of hazards.

• Check for quality defects and inform Supervision / management for corrective action.

• Report time, production, materials used, and other data relative to the job accurately and in the manner prescribed. Work Instructions, Job Travelers and SOPs:

• Read and use complex work instructions, Job Travelers and SOPs.

• Read and use customer or ECM prints.

• Read and use wire diagrams. Strip, Twist, and Tin Process

• Set-up and operate rotary stripping equipment for stripping, twisting and tinning. Soldering

• Set up and operate resistance soldering equipment.

• Solders to IPC 620 Class 2 standard. Wire Preparation: Paper Cutting / Filler Removal Process

• Using the Job Traveler, verify that the cords at the work center are the correct ones.

• Using hand-operated cutting tools, remove all paper and other types of filler material from around the conductors in the area where the jacket has been        removed, leaving the conductors free from controllable trimming defects. Giving attention to safety, housekeeping, time efficiency and materials applies to all processes:

• Ensure the workplace is consistently clean and orderly and is free of hazards.

• Check for quality defects and inform Supervision / management for corrective action.

• Report time, production, materials used, and other data relative to the job accurately and in the manner prescribed. Work Instructions, Job Travelers and SOPs: 

• Read and use complex work instructions, Job Travelers and SOPs.

• Staggers cuts according to work instructions.

• Inspect each conductor for scrapes or damages resulting from the filler removal or previous operations. Wire Preparation: Cut Tubing • Reads and measures in the English and metric measurement systems.

• Uses work instructions to initiate and complete work.

• Manages raw material.

• Operates various pieces of cutting equipment.

• Completes necessary record keeping (Forms).

• Accurately and safely sets up all tubing and flat ribbon cutting equipment. Wire Preparation: Apply wire terminations

• Using automated equipment, attach wire terminations using proper techniques according to instructions on the Job Traveler.

• Set up all automated terming equipment (change applicators, etc.).

• Read print and thread tubing on fine strands of drain wire.

• Use hand tools to crimp (bond / fasten) terminal to wires.

• Conduct “pull” quality testing. Marking / Labeling Process

• Apply properly to product using work instructions.

• Produce labels on the labeling equipment. Tools:

• Stripping/Crimping

• Torque Wrenches and calibration

• Hand Tools (i.e. pliers, drivers, sockets, manual and electric screwdrivers etc.) Assemble, Build Harnesses | Powercord:

• Understand wire routing.

• Using a product model, a kit, work instructions, and / or a simple diagram:

• Prepare wires and all other materials.

• Set up the project on a board or bench, as necessary.

• Insert terms into housings. Test Product

• Maintain records of all tests.

• Ensure that defective product is dispositioned properly. Packing:

• Pack according to work instructions.

• Move packages to Shipping.

• Place Job Traveler in designated area.

• Conduct product inspections, pack product according to work instructions. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Education: High School Diploma / GED / or equivalent

2. Experience: non required.

3. Knowledge and Technical Skills:

o Basic reading and writing and comprehension skills

o Arithmetic skills for measurement: (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions)

4. Tools able to use: Measuring Tools; basic computer use, hand crimping tools

5. Software:

6. Language: English
