The Centre for Foreign Language Study at Durham University is looking to expand its bank of language teachers for its Languages for All (evening) classes in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian. Spanish, Swedish, Turkish. While there are no immediate vacancies in all languages, we aim to build a reserve of teachers who can be available as needed. Applicants should have first or near-first language competency, experience of language teaching in secondary or tertiary education and/or hold a qualification in language teaching.
Courses, which are open to students and members of the public, typically run three times a year—in the autumn, winter, and spring terms—and are traditionally held in the evening in either face-to-face or online formats. Teaching volume is typically 2 courses/4 hours per week. The posts are only suitable for individuals residing in the UK and with existing right to work in the UK. We cannot consider interest from teachers’ resident outside the UK.
This is not a post, but an advertisement for expressions of interest to join a pool of staff who will be contacted if hours become available.
Successful applicants will be invited for an informal interview to discuss their interest and experience to date.

Casual Grade 6
Under instruction and following appropriate training:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the subject area
Plan, prepare, and teach courses as specified by the relevant department
Maintain class registers and monitor attendance
Provide and update course materials
Assist with curriculum development and the production of L&T materials
Undertake marking of participant work as required according to published criteria
Provide oral and/or written feedback to students as per departmental requirements
Work effectively with Microsoft office, Durham’s VLE and other learning technologies as required
Ensure timely and efficient communication with students, professional services staff and academic colleagues in the department as necessary
Engage in peer observations of teaching, meetings and training as requested
