Quality Supervisor
Position Summary: The Quality Supervisor leads Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), Returns Inspection, and Material Review Board (MRB) activities to ensure products consistently meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements. This role provides direct leadership to inspection teams, oversees quality processes across the operation, and promotes a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Research & Development, Customer Care, and Product Management, the Quality Supervisor drives effective resolution of quality issues, ensures compliance with quality standards, and supports process improvements that enhance product performance and operational efficiency. This position also contributes to strategic quality initiatives and organizational development, serving as a key leadership role with a defined path toward future Quality Manager responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Operations
•Develop and manage daily and weekly inspection schedules aligned with production priorities.
•Assign, monitor, and adjust Quality Control/Material Review Board workloads in real time to maintain flow and meet deadlines.
•Conduct daily SQDIP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity) shift meetings to communicate priorities, risks, performance expectations, and quality concerns.
•Conduct regular floor inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards, procedures, and work instructions while addressing any obstacles.
•Train, coach, and assess team members on inspection techniques and decision-making processes.
•Conduct performance evaluations and address attendance, conduct, and performance concerns in a timely manner.
•Approve employee timecards and ensure compliance with company policies and safety requirements.
Quality Control and Quality Assurance
•Oversee receiving, in-process, and final inspections to ensure products meet specifications and customer requirements.
•Review and approve inspection results, disposition decisions, and product release activities.
•Audit inspector’s work to verify consistency, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
•Ensure current drawings, specifications, acceptance criteria, and quality documentation are available and utilized.
•Maintain and continuously improve inspection plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
•Ensure inspection equipment and measurement systems are properly calibrated, maintained, and available for use.
Nonconformance Management and Compliance
•Review and approve Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for completeness and accuracy.
•Conduct a structured root cause analysis using defined methods and assign corrective actions with specific owners and deadlines.
•Assign corrective and preventive actions and ensure timely completion and effectiveness verification.
•Escalate significant quality risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
•Support internal and external audits and perform routine checks to ensure Quality Management System (QMS) adherence.
•Maintain accurate inspection records and quality data.
Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement
•Monitor and analyze quality metrics, including defects, scrap, rework, yield, customer complaints, and audit findings.
•Identify trends and lead quality improvement initiatives to reduce variation and improve process performance.
•Utilize statistical and analytical tools to support data-driven decision making.
•Verify effectiveness of corrective actions through data analysis and follow-up audits.
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other structured improvement methodologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
•Partner with Operations, Engineering, Research & Development, Customer Care, and Product Management to resolve quality issues and improve product performance.
•Support customer complaint investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
•Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities to ensure quality requirements are incorporated into production processes.
•Prepare quality performance summaries, reports, and presentations for leadership review.
•Support workforce planning, strategic initiatives, and departmental objectives.
•Serve as backup to the Quality Manager and assist with management reviews, strategic planning, and organizational improvement initiatives.
Training Compliance
Training is essential to supporting employee development, ensuring compliance, and maintaining high standards of performance.
•Complete all required role-specific and company-wide training by assigned deadlines to remain compliant and job-ready.
•Ensure team members complete required role-specific and company-wide training on time, support time allocation for training, and follow up on any overdue training.
Safety Compliance
•Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
•Follow and enforce established safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
•Ensure compliance with data security and confidential information.
•Expected to participate in meetings related to safety topics and attend safety training sessions related to this role, department, and the company.
•Communicate promptly and complete incident reports following accidents or injuries at work with the Safety and Sustainability Manager and HR Manager to manage any necessary corrective actions.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
•A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations, or a related technical field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
•5 or more years of progressive quality assurance or quality control experience in a manufacturing or regulated industry environment.
•2 or more years in a supervisory, lead, or team leadership capacity with direct accountability for personnel performance.
Certification(s)
•Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred or is to be obtained during the first year.
•ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or related equivalents are a plus.
Skills
•Strong working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and applicable standards (ISO 9001).
•Hands-on experience leading or supporting internal and external audits.
•Managing corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities to ensure compliance. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
•Solid understanding of inspection methods, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and measurement systems analysis (MSA, Gage R&R).
•Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools, with the ability to drive improvements on the production floor.
•Experience applying statistical process control (SPC) and process capability analysis to monitor and improve product and process performance.
•Proficiency with ERP, along with data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, Power BI, or similar.
•Experience in regulated manufacturing environments such as aerospace, medical device, defense, or similar industries will be a plus.
•Background in supplier quality, including participation in supplier audits and use of core quality tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans).
•Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and support quality team members in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
•Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across operations, engineering, and leadership teams.

Work Environment
The primary work setting is a manufacturing, production, office, or quality lab environment requiring regular floor presence. Exposure to noise, tools, chemicals, dust, and warehouse equipment, such
as forklift trucks. Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) where required. Occasional travel is expected for customer visits, supplier audits, and industry-related activities, estimated at less than 10% annually.
