The role will sit within the Legal Team, providing internal expertise for product development and ensuring the business maintains correct authorisations for testing, demonstrations, field deployments and operational activities.

Why This Role Matters

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Ensure compliance with relevant radiofrequency standards (domestic and international), including radiocommunications, spectrum use, EMC/EME exposure, and device labelling requirements
  • Advise internal Engineering and Operations teams on lawful operation of radiofrequency (RF) equipment across product development, testing, demonstrations and customer deployments
  • Support the Legal Team with regulatory interpretations, licensing obligations and updates to radiofrequency frameworks affecting DroneShield

Product & Technical Compliance

  • Review and advise on ACMA compliance requirements for new and existing DroneShield devices, including operation in regulated frequency bands
  • Liaise with Engineering and Product teams to ensure design decisions align with ACMA rules
  • Oversee testing documentation for conformity assessment, including laboratory results, device classifications and technical evidence
  • Maintain and update Statements of Compliance, technical files and associated documentation

Internal Governance & Documentation

  • Maintain an up‑to‑date register of licences, approvals, exemptions, renewals and associated conditions
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to management and the Legal Team
  • Draft internal guidance, SOPs and compliance checklists for RF‑related operational activities
  • Conduct internal training for staff on ACMA obligations, licensing conditions and regulatory changes

External Engagement

  • Interface with ACMA, accredited test facilities, legal advisers and industry bodies as required
  • Assist in responses to regulatory audits, inspections or inquiries from authorities
  • Support the Legal Team in preparing submissions to regulatory consultations and policy reviews impacting DroneShield technologies

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with Australian and international radiocommunications regulations, spectrum frameworks, or technical compliance regimes
  • Strong understanding of RF systems, communications equipment, EMC/EME exposure obligations and device compliance pathways
  • Prior experience in defence, technology, telecoms, or regulated hardware environments (advantageous)
  • Ability to interpret and apply ACMA rules, standards and legislation
  • Strong documentation, record-keeping and compliance management skills
  • Ability to work closely with Legal, Engineering, Product and Operations teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Highly organised, detail‑oriented and capable of working independently
