Kā Huanui a Tāhuna is an alliance established in November 2020 between Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, and four leading design and construction partners — Beca, WSP, Downer New Zealand, and Fulton Hogan to deliver a series of cornerstone projects for Queenstown.
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join the Downer Infrastructure Delivery team to join the team delivering key infrastructure changes as part of the Kā Huanui a Tāhuna programme of works, As part of the team you will assist in delivery of the Frankton interchange and Bus Hub improvements, this intersection upgrade at the meeting of state highways 6 and 6A represents the largest change to Queenstown’s roading infrastructure in 20 years, this Road of Regional Significance is building resilience both above and below ground and driving regional change.
Tekōwhiringa | The Opportunity
A flexible attitude is essential. In this role, you will apply engineering principles to guide the project team, ensuring that the technical aspects of the project are aligned with the agreed standards and specifications.
Key responsibilities will include the following:
Participate in the management of assigned works, ensuring contract performance meets customer requirements in terms of quality, cost and project timeframes.
Assist the Project Manager to manage project documentation including contracts, subcontractor and supplier agreements, invoices and claims.
Ensure that all monthly financial management reporting requirements are met. Complete workload forecasting for the contract.
Ensure appropriate Project Management Methodology (PMM), safety and quality assurance systems are in place
You will have the opportunity to develop and maintain strong client relationships, liaise with the public and prepare progress and claim reports. You will also have a quality and safety ethos and perfom audits and checks to ensure compliance with Health and Safety, quality and environmental policies.

A formal civil engineering qualification (BE, NZCE)
Proven project engineer experience and a suitable level of experience in the construction industry
Experience working within a contracting organisation
Experience in reviewing technical drawings and design
Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated customer relationship management skills
Sound project or engineering operations experience, including budget management
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Full Class 1 NZ Drivers Licence
