Description

Young Adult Transition Program

Job Type: Full-time
Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week
Work Location: In person – Costa Mesa, CA

Pay: $19–$23 per hour

Are you looking for a job where your work truly matters, every day is different, and you get to be part of a fun and supportive community?

At College Living Experience (CLE), academic success isn't built through grades alone. It happens during study sessions, conversations with professors, time-management planning, problem-solving challenges, and the everyday moments where students learn how to navigate college with greater confidence and independence.

As an Academic Coach, you'll help neurodiverse young adults discover how they learn best and develop the skills needed to succeed in college and beyond. You'll work alongside students to strengthen executive functioning, organization, study habits, self-advocacy, and academic confidence while helping them navigate the challenges of higher education.

We are looking for someone who is patient, creative, and passionate about helping students reach their potential. Someone who enjoys mentoring, adapting their approach to different learning styles, and celebrating growth along the way. Candidates often come from backgrounds in education, tutoring, special education, academic coaching, psychology, student support services, learning assistance, or humanities instruction. We especially welcome candidates with experience teaching or tutoring writing, English, literature, history, communications, philosophy, political science, or related fields.

In this role, you'll provide individualized academic coaching and tutoring, help students develop effective study strategies, manage assignments and deadlines, communicate with professors, prepare for exams, and build the skills needed to become more independent learners. You'll collaborate closely with our social, career, and independent living teams to ensure students receive holistic support across all areas of their development.

The ideal candidate believes that success looks different for every student and is excited to help neurodiverse young adults build confidence, overcome challenges, achieve their educational goals, and create a strong foundation for lifelong learning and independence.

Why People Love Working at CLE

  • Working at CLE means being part of a collaborative team dedicated to helping students achieve meaningful academic and personal growth.
  • Every day is different. You'll work one-on-one with students, helping them navigate college coursework, develop effective learning strategies, and overcome challenges that may be impacting their success.
  • You get to see real progress. One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is watching students gain confidence, improve their academic skills, and become more independent learners.
  • You can be creative in your approach. No two students learn the same way. You'll have the flexibility to adapt strategies, develop individualized supports, and find innovative ways to help students succeed.
  • You build meaningful relationships. Academic coaching at CLE goes beyond tutoring. You'll serve as a mentor, guide, and advocate as students navigate their college experience.
  • You're part of a supportive team. Our academic, career, social, and independent living staff work closely together to provide holistic support and celebrate student successes.

Academic Coaching & Executive Functioning Support

  • Provide individualized academic coaching and tutoring based on each student's learning style, strengths, and academic goals.
  • Review syllabi, assignments, grades, and course requirements to help students create realistic semester and weekly plans.
  • Teach and reinforce executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, prioritization, task initiation, and study strategies.
  • Help students prepare for exams, complete projects, and develop effective note-taking and learning techniques.
  • Support students in communicating with professors, academic advisors, and campus Disability Support Services (DSS) when appropriate.
  • Foster self-advocacy, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.

Student Support & Collaboration

  • Build strong mentoring relationships that encourage accountability, confidence, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with social, career development, and independent living staff to ensure students receive coordinated support across all domains.
  • Participate in team meetings, student reviews, and problem-solving discussions.

Documentation & Communication

  • Document student progress, coaching sessions, and action plans in BestNotes following each student meeting.
  • Communicate concerns, successes, and recommendations to the Academic Coordinator and interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate records and support student goal tracking throughout the semester.

Benefits

CLE offers a supportive work environment and benefits for eligible employees, which may include:• Dental insurance
• Vision insurance
• Retirement plan
• Paid sick time
• Flexible scheduling options

Requirements

Transportation Requirements

This role includes travel between work sites and transporting students as needed.

Applicants must:

  • Teaching/tutoring experience (1+ year preferred).
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences or special education (preferred).
