Job Description
RADNEXT 2030 is a Horizon Europe Research Infrastructure Services project that provides coordinated transnational access to radiation effects testing facilities across Europe and beyond. CERN is the project coordinator and also operates two key facilities within the network: CHARM and HEARTS@CERN.
This position is embedded in the Radiation to Electronics (R2E) activity within the Accelerator Systems department. You will work at the interface between project management, user access operations, and radiation effects research, contributing to the successful delivery of RADNEXT 2030's objectives.
You will gain broad exposure to the European radiation hardness assurance community, to CERN's accelerator infrastructure, and to the design, execution and analysis of radiation effects experiments.
Your responsibilities:
Work on the definition and coordination of the transnational access workflow for facilities within the RADNEXT 2030 framework.
Contribute to the definition, testing and improvement of the facility access online portal.
Provide scientific support to the organisation and delivery of RADNEXT 2030 consortium activities.
Support the scientific communication, dissemination and outreach activities of RADNEXT 2030.
Contribute to applied research tasks, with a focus on novel beam techniques and radiation environment characterisation, in particular fragmented heavy-ion beams for full LET-spectrum testing and pulsed-electron SEE proxy studies.
Support the integration of the HEARTS@CERN facility and its related user management into the RADNEXT 2030 consortium.
Engage with the broader radiation effects community through the RADNEXT 2030 user base, supporting training activities including the Radiation Effects Testing Summer School.
Your profile:
Experience in radiation effects testing and radiation hardness assurance.
Experience in the design, preparation and execution of irradiation experiments.
Experience in scientific writing and dissemination (publications, reports, conference contributions).
Familiarity with project coordination, user support or scientific service activities would be an advantage.
Skills:
Knowledge of radiation effects in electronics and of the main radiation test standards and methodologies (e.g. ESA/ECSS, MIL-STD).
Knowledge of particle accelerator facilities and radiation-matter interaction physics relevant to radiation effects testing.
Ability to work in an international, multi-institutional project environment and to interact with a diverse user community.
Strong organisational and communication skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
You have a professional background in Applied Physics, Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
a Master's Degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
