The accounting division for a family of privately owned waste disposal and recycling companies is hiring for a Controller. Operating since 1976, our businesses span six states and serve rapidly growing metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Memphis, Clearwater, Orlando, and San Antonio.
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations across multiple recycling locations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on financial work, managing staff, and collaborating closely with ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage accounting checklists for daily/weekly/monthly accounting work.
Conduct the month-end close and review the financial statements
Manage budgets and forecasting for assigned locations
Analyze trends and variances; develop cost-reduction strategies
Supervise and develop the office accounting staff
Measuring workload/workflow and have cross training for proper staffing size
Conduct performance reviews
Train new team members
Support departmental hiring
Support special projects as assigned by management
Ensure compliance with internal procedures and duties
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance(required)
Waste & Recycling Industry experience (required)
7+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior experience supervising direct reports
Strong understanding of inventory accounting
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, variance analysis, and cost control
Proficient in MS Office, especially advanced Excel
Experience in manufacturing, recycling, or services industries a plus
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
