Overview
The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in The Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership affecting change on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Lab Schools, Visiting Programs, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Communications & Marketing Supervisor, the Design and Creative Content Associate will work as part of a team of people who are collectively responsible for telling The Island School's story through a wide range of media strategies. The primary role of the Design and Creative Content Associate is to coordinate visual brand representation across both print and digital media, deliver projects on time, and assist others in creating visually compelling and engaging stories that are consistent across the organization. A qualified candidate has demonstrated success in brand management, graphic design, photography and videography, and social media content creation, as well as experience collaborating with others and working independently.

As a member of the Communications Department, everyone plays a role in facilitating ongoing communications needs, maintaining project and task schedules, supporting The Island School’s digital presence, and delivering major media projects. This individual is creative and reliable, capable of independent work, and can coordinate across departments to gather content and meet organizational needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Supervisor, deliver consistent visual representation across multimedia projects, ensuring alignment with brand standards
  • Act as a lead graphic designer for short- and long-term design projects, including multi-page publications, promotional materials, website, and social media graphics
  • Manage workflow, review processes, packaging, and archiving of design files for publication and storage
  • Adapt logos, files, and graphics for various applications such as merchandise and signage
  • Assist with social media content creation and posting, especially as it relates to branded graphics, images, event notifications, etc.
  • Create video content for web, social media, and marketing purposes
  • Collaborating with team members on social media content creation, campaign materials, sharing, and strategy
  • Assist with website design, development, and general maintenance
  • Contribute to weekly meetings and other aspects of the Communications Team as needed, including photography, event preparation, social media, etc.
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in communications and marketing, specifically graphic design or a related field
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud; a strong preference for candidates with extensive experience in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience producing marketing materials for varied audiences
  • Experience with social media marketing and content creation on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Interest in photography, video, website design, and social media marketing
  • A commitment to the core values of The Island School: education, marine conservation, and sustainable design
  • A desire and interest to work with young people, sharing the Island School experience and communication skills
  • A collaborative spirit and interest in growing within the communications and marketing field
  • Flexibility and a sense of adventure for remote island living; comfortable working in and around the water, as well as on boats
  • Eager to work with students of all ages
